"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThis item is under dispute. Please discuss it here instead of edit warring:
- Corona's "The Rhythm of the Night" got this thanks to the Grand Theft Auto V soundtrack. And then, in a Black Comedy way, because of a certain virus...
Here is my argument: Colbert Bump is when a work gains popularity after being featured in another, more popular work. A real-life problem is not a work; and the example tries to connect the band to the virus simply because they share the same name.
Even though a reference isn't required, I did look around to see if there was any evidence of a Colbert Bump-style rise in popularity in that song due to COVID-19. And I found nothing other than a recent Todd in the Shadows video. I don't think that's enough. I also agree with TantaMonty that a work should be involved for something to qualify as a Colbert Bump.
Edited by thelivingtoadIt has been three days since I first raised awareness to this issue. If there are no new comments by tomorrow, I intend to restore the example's first sentence and leave a note on the page explaining not to add any examples pertaining to the pandemic. Are there any objections?
Is it inappropriate to mention the time XKCD did a strip about the site? http://www.xkcd.com/609/
mudshark: I don't expect Nate to make sense, really. Hide / Show RepliesIs this really named after Colbert? This effect is at least as old as the internet (Slashdot effect, etc.) and probably as old as radio.
Given the Jay Eazy video becoming a meme online, would Poughkeepsie Galleria fall into this?
