I changed the caption on the picture, because it asserted that "you did" design the castle. If you're familiar with the Brawl in the Family storyline, you'd know that's actually a grown-up Bowser Jr., and Bowser Sr. is still the one calling the shots, so no, "you" (Jr.) probably didn't. Still a great example though.
Is it really a case of Boss Arena "Idiocy" if there's a legitimate reason that the feature would be present? Specifically, I'm thinking of the Blitz Shooter described in Final Fantasy X. The party fights it on an Al Bhed ship, which is primarily used for salvaging, as you learn when Tidus first encounters Rikku. As a salvage ship, it makes perfect sense that there would be a crane.

That's just plain not an example. Unless the enemy's known sole weakness was "large cranes" and it choose to fight there. It's just clever use of the environment.
