That Shrek example… You know that Dreamworks (the one who makes live-action films) and Dreamworks Animation have been two seperate companies for 15 years now (at this date of writing), right? Disney signed a deal with the former, not the latter.

Edited by GarfLarf Well, that does it for our crossover episode. Thanks for coming, cast of Bob's Burgers.

Amid Amidi wrote a series of Tweets after Big Hero 6 took the Best Animated Movie gong at this year's Oscars, about how the Lego movie was completely overlooked, how Disney dominates the category to such an extent that it appears that the judges just automatically vote for the Disney one without even watching the films, and how if you're making an animated film and you're not Disney you're basically not going to win an Oscar no matter how good your finished product is.

I think this belongs somewhere on the site but I'm not sure if it should go under this topic, Animation Age Ghetto, or something else.

That doesn't seem to be a trope at all. More like a complaint about the Oscar.

Erm, I think the image isn't self-explanatory enough.

We could replace it with the poster for Anastasia. It's a more famous movie and it seems to get the All Animation Is Disney treatment most often.

Looking for some stories?

Now that we have an image with the not-Disney logo in plain view, I'd like to bring up that the first Anastasia picture used had a wittier caption checking off all the similarities it has with a Disney fairy tale adaptation. Anyone remember how it went? I can't find it in the history. I think it would help explain why people mistake it for a Disney movie.

Don't know who decided to remove it and replace it with Quest For Camelot. They should be banned =P

So I was so f****** blown away when I found out that Anastasia is not a Disney film, so I decided to google it and I think I found out another component of the problem: Anastasia is the name of one of Cinderella's step-sisters! I think that also brings in the trope Name's the Same.

I think part of the problem is the animators who made movies like Anastasia, Thumblina, Swan Princess, and even Shrek started out at Disney in the first place. Even Tim Burton started at Disney! After the Fox&the Hound Don Bluth and 11 other animators left Disney and others like Tim Burton, John Laster (Toy Story) Brad Bird (Incredibles)John Musker ( The Great Mouse Detective) took over

Um.. isn't Pixar technically Disney?

Or shouldn't at least something be mentioned that they're just distributed under Disney?

Since at least 2006 Disney brought Pixar so now the company is Disney-Pixar.
