BY THE WAY, the Ace Combat protagonists themselves also fit the characterization of the space marines: They're Silent, Faceless, ordered around by a Voice with an Internet Connection, and most certainly badass, being One Man Armies in their own right, and have Improbable Piloting Skills (more often than not they tend to do an Airstrike Impossible here and there).
I made Tales of Troperia. That's all you need to know about me.
Would the Ace Combat protagonists technically count as this trope? I know it might be a bit of a Square Peg, Round Trope, but the more I think about it, the more I think that they actually fit the bill. Let's go over the criteria for this trope: The game has to be a First-Person Shooter or Third-Person Shooter (Ace Combat is pretty much those but for aerial combat, you can switch camera positions for either first or third person, and you shoot things down), the game has to be Military Science Fiction themed (Ace Combat is definitely this, judging by the superweapons, the global conflicts, etc.), and the protagonist is a member of the military (Most of the time, though in cases like Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War the protagonist is initially a mercenary). Although the first one is a bit... Muddy (Ace Combat is closer to a Flight / Combat Flight Simulation Game, though I'd say it should probably count as an FPS or TPS), I do believe that Ace Combat Protagonists would definitely fall under this trope. If you would like to discuss this with me, then feel free to do so.
