Two tropes I'm not sure what they're referring to. My best guess for It Was a Gift is the horse necklace because the gifts the Wintersmith gives Tiffany don't last, and You isn't plot significant.
The other is What Kind of Lame Power Is Heart, Anyway?. Perhaps referring to one of Tiffany's newfound powers? If so, I'm not sure which one.

Does anybody else's copy have small brown smudges on certain pages? Mine does at one point in chapter 6. At first I thought that somebody was just eating chocolate while reading it in the past, but keeping in mind the part where Tiffany recognizes that the Feegle have read her diary, it could be a subtle Leaning on the Fourth Wall.
