I really don't think wolverine's fighting skill should be counted as an informed ability, since he indeed has displayed top MA skills whenever the situation called for it. The reason why he fights like an untrained brawler most of the time is due to his laziness and recklessness rather than a lack of skill. This has been noted by several characters.
So to summarize, its more 'brilliant but lazy' at play here.
