Is the claim in the first paragraph, that a medieval-era friction between wizards and muggles is the cause of the "present-day" divide, actually substantiated by anything in cannon?

Woah...where does it claim that all centaurs are male? I don't have my books with me and could have sworn there was a female in there.

This. Nowhere does it say all centaurs are a single-gender race. I know movies tend not to show female centaurs due to censorship laws, but still!

Apparently, the Wizards' Ordinary Magic and Basic Aptitude Test on JKR's website had "There are no female centaurs" as one of the options on a "Which statement is true" question, and it wasn't. Removing.
