Was it ever explained in the film *why* exactly Peter's Celestial powers disappeared when Ego was killed? Or is this the old "we really don't need *another* God-Like-Entity" plot armor?

I'm pretty sure that Ego told Peter that his immortality stems from the heart/brain of Ego's world. It's logical to assume that his celestial powers stem from that too, hence why Peter lost them when they destroyed it.

Yup, exactly. I don't remember in detail, but Ego clearly state that Peter's powers come from Ego himself (which he calls the "Light of Ego"), and when that light goes off Peter naturally lose them. Ego even try to bargain with Peter about that, but Quill's response is that there's nothing wrong with being a "mere human".

So, the anachronic order does create plot holes given what happens at the end and the complete lack of mentioning it in the other movies, if this movie happens before everything else in Phase 3.

I don't follow the word of god closely for these franchise so I don't know. Isn't it possible that the anachronic order is that the first movie actually happens after every other movie before this one?

My advice is enjoy the film on its own terms as a sequel to the first film and wait for MCU and others to do the heavy-lifting of the continuity.

I mean the events of the films since the first GOTG don't quite matter...we haven't been to the Cosmic Realm since The Stinger of Ultron. The interim films have been self-contained.

It's not about about how the other films impact this one, but how this one impacts (or should've impacted) the others if it indeed happened first.

It's not as if something like a a gigantic blob born out of Celestial energy exploding all of a sudden, killing hundreds is something that'd be beneath notice of the Avengers or, probably, Kamar-Taj.

And yeah, I always apply the MST3K Mantra to these movies but, still, bears mentioning.

EDIT: Never mind, rewatched and the movie definitely takes place in 2014 (prologue in 1980, jump to 34 years later). So, yeah, a noticeable lack of mention of this movie's events in every other movie since the first Guardians.

Mmmh... "Sovereign" has been changed to singular for every instance on the page. Not that I doubt it can be an invariable word, but is there any official source from it?

I don't follow MCU continuity closely either, so perhaps I missed this. Why couldn't the "Celestial blobs" have Magically Disappeared after Ego was killed/destroyed/whatever? (Or for that matter, killing Ego somehow reset time and the blobs never existed in the first place - having Ego [wherever he is] make something happen on Earth *definitely* violates Einstein in a big way. But then, so does their "dimensional gateway transport", so..)

P.S. how do I get quotes to work with this? I tried back-slash, forward-slash, etc.

Okay, I'm unsure if it's really a shout-out, so I'm asking for other opinions.

Upon watching the movie, I couldn't help but think that Stan Lee's astronaut suit really looked like the ones from Tintin: Explorers on the Moon.

However, I can't now find a clear picture to confirm it.

Could it be a different allusion?

Anyone else not feeling that page quote for Vol. 2? I feel Rocket's "So we're saving the galaxy again? Awesome! We're really gonna be able to jack up our prices if we're TWO-time galaxy savers!" would be more appropriate.

Definitely an improvement.

Though really, something about one of the actual themes of the movie (specifically the significance of family) would probably be best.

Yeah, the current quote lacks context.

Rocket's "two-times galaxy saver" would be the best. The quote doesn't have to be about the movie theme. Most of the time it's just a tagline.

And I feel that Rocket quote pretty much sums up the mindset of our ragtag heroes' deposition.

Seriously, does Mythology Gag needs its own subpage? There is barely a screen worth of it.

Lines in the film itself. Ayesha says "The Sovereign thank you" after the Guardians protect the batteries, the title card when they go to their Empire is "The Sovereign", etc.

Is Groot really the load? Simply put Rocket and Undou couldnt have escaped with out him. And the bomb wouldnt have even got close to Ego mind if Groot had not been around. Later on when it was esposed the terrain was to cahotic for even the ship to come close. So Groot size and pressence was vital on too important instances. Just seems loose justification for him to be labeled the load.

It can be argued that he was indeed inconsequential in freeing Rocket and Yondu, Kraglin seemed likely to do it anyway.

But at the end, definitely not; they were out of options after the Sovereigns started attacking. Everything Rocket or the others might have had that could go through Ego's shield was otherwise occupied and, later, destroyed.

The Load trope doesn't preclude the character to be occasionally useful. He just has to be protected and dragged along by the other characters most of the time.

The example makes it clear that it happens for this one movie, in comparison to his previous incarnation.

But the examples stated that he was not useful or part of the plot therefore eas the Load. The first exampke us debatable the second one incorrect because if he had not managed to infiltrate and place the bomb Ego would have won. So his size was important .
