I don't think "pet the dog" applies, since it's mostly for anti-villains and anti-heroes, and, specifically, for fiction only. Obviously, not only Marx wasn't a "villain", he existed as well.

I think this Karl Marx article needs some work. For the most part it has the basic facts, but it's a bit choppy and seems to just shoehorn tropes
