To explain why I edited out Bad Boss and The Perils of Being the Best for Emhyr: Basically, Fringilla fucked up royally with the alliance between elves and Nilfgaard, and she and Cahir have essentially ignored Ciri, after Cahir failed to catch her last season. Instead of trying to explain herself, Fringilla then shivs the generals and blackmails Cahir into covering for her, which leads to both of them straight up lying to Emhyr about the poor elf baby. That doesn't make them politically savvy, it makes them kind of dumb - they at the very least could have tried to find out who really killed the kid before pulling this. And that's essentially why he cuts them off - he caught them fucking up and then lying to him about it, and they made clear that they were not concentrating on what he apparently cared most about, namely finding Ciri. That's less Ungrateful Bastard and more Pragmatic Villainy, if anything.
Fringilla is also not necessarily scared of failure because of anything Emhyr has actually done before, her insecurities are constantly fed by Voleth Meir, which is why she goes as far as she does in the first place (Remember, even the scene where Emhyr appears to be talking to her early in the season is actually Voleth Meir). Her deal is a large part why all of this goes pear-shaped.
Personally, I don't think you can read much more into Emhyr's motivation and personality from the two seconds we've seen of him on the show yet, and the temptation to give him tropes that are more fitting for his book or game versions seems to be incredibly high. I'd suggest to wait until we see how close show!Emhyr actually is to those versions, before putting too many tropes into his entry.
