Ambiguously Gay is a hint that they are possibly or even likely to be gay. Threader, for example, has a lot of hints that he's gay. Gowther, on the other hand, doesn't even understand emotions. The joke isn't that he's gay, it's that he doesn't see anything strange about rewriting people's memories to view him as their lover even if they're male. Just being vaguely feminine looking is kind of meaningless.

From what I understand of Ambiguously Gay, those who fit it are those who have stereotypical traits of a gay person but are somewhat ambiguous whether or not they are gay. Gowther is kinda that considering certain depictions which seem somewhat ambiguously gay despite him being emotionless.

In regards to him brainwashing males in thinking that he's their lover, while it can be explained that he doesn't understand emotions, it can still be interpreted as rather ambiguously gay as well. I mean in the very scene in which he brainwashed them, none of the knights are shown to be brainwashed into thinking that Gowther is anything but their lover. With Ban and Meliodas, it's shown that Gowther brainwashed the knights to think they were either family, friends, or apparently lovers as suggested in a panel wherein Ban is being rubbed creepily by some guys. However from what is shown, there doesn't seem to be any knight who was brainwashed to think Gowther is family or a close friend, only those which think of him as a lover.

In regards to Gowther being depicted as feminine, while him being thus doesn't necessarily equate to being gay, such traits however can still be stereotypically interpreted as being ambiguously gay. He is essentially presented as a "trap" to coin a term, which in itself can be interpreted as gay.

Take for example his depiction on the cover of a side chapter. He is presented in a very fanservice pose. However due to his appearance, it's somewhat ambiguous whether this fanservice is directed to the straight female audience or otherwise.

Then there is his depiction on Chapter 88's cover. While, the main joke of the cover is having a bunch of guys in drag, which in essence is kinda of a gay joke, it kinda reinforces the idea that Gowther is ambiguously gay.

There is also the cheerleading scene and the list on the detention coverpage of the High School AU. While the scenes are less canon and don't necessarily equate to him being gay, they are still things that would make one interpret Gowther as being possibly gay.

Yes I understand that Gowther is emotionless and probably asexual, however that doesn't mean that he isn't being presented in a manner that can be interpreted as him being Ambiguously Gay. I mean he's kinda similar to the pic in the trope's page, which questions if the character's gay or not. Gowther's so far an ambiguity and considering he's the Sin of Lust, that ambiguity kinda extends to his sexuality.

The trope kind of carries the assumption that the character might be gay, though. The first joke with Gowther seems to simply be that he's highly androgynous and second that he fails to understand how people are supposed to behavenote  so he doesn't even realize he's done anything strange.

As for the page with characters in drag, Dreyfus and Ban are also dressed in women's clothing. It doesn't really mean anything. Jericho dresses as a man at the start of the story, does that make her ambiguously gay too?

Indeed the trope carries the assumption that a character might be gay, but that's what it is, an assumption. From what I understand, it's an assumption based on them having several traits that would otherwise be stereotypically associated with someone who is gay. They might really be straight, gay, bisexual, asexual, or whatever, however due to certain things, it's uncertain hence why they would fit the ambiguously gay trope.

Gowther's androgynous appearance and actions by themselves would not make him ambiguously gay. However when taken as a whole, they kinda present a lingering question which asks whether he's actually gay or not.

(your note doesn't seem to be open-able if it is supposed to be)

The page with the characters in drag indeed don't mean anything for most of them, however for Gowther it kinda reinforces the trope when coupled with other characteristics of his that are known.

For Jericho, she does dress in the drag however based on her character so far, it appears that she's merely a Tomboy. I guess she might be considered that though with what is known, however she doesn't seem to have that much ambiguity in sexuality as Gowther has.

Yes Gowther doesn't know how people are supposed to behave or how emotions work, however being simply that doesn't necessarily exclude him from the assumption that he might be interpreted as gay. Besides simply not knowing how emotions work, doesn't necessarily mean that he's 100% asexual, just assumed to be at most. He has shown interest in romantic novels after all and is the Sin of Lust.

Note contents: Remember, he's the same guy that reads people's minds and then starts telling everyone what he's learned. This guy has no sense of what constitutes proper social behavior. Like when Threader gets all depressed and says "laugh at me if you wish, Gowther" and he actually does it, completely oblivious to how mean that is.

I just went and read through a lot of that stuff and at most they call him a crossdresser. There's not the slightest hint he might be gay. When he brainwashes those guys only one or two people talk to Gowther directly and he's not the only one to be getting male suitors.

Crossdressing is not homosexuality. And he doesn't even do that most of the time.

Being the sin of lust is meaningless. Ban is the sin of greed, but that's kind of the opposite of the truth. Showing interest in romantic novels is the same as those silly poses he does. He's just copying things that he sees or hears.

Remember, Gowther is not a human. He is not a giant or fairy or anything else like that. He doesn't act like them and probably should not be judged as one.

In the scene with the brainwashed guys, yes I do mention that he isn't the only one who apparently gets male suitors as shown with Ban having some guys rubbing creepily on him. Gowther however is shown to have at least only male suitors. There's a knight who calls Meliodas, his son. There's knights who call Meliodas and Ban Big Bro. However there isn't a knight shown that thinks that Gowther is anything but their lover, despite there being one or two. The anime, if it ever gets there, may expand on the scene, however as it stands it looks like Gowther has only male suitors in that scene. Since Gowther was the one who brainwashed, it may be perceived as Ambiguously Gay.

Yes I understand that crossdressing does not mean gay which is somewhat I mentioned with Jericho. She crossdresses like Gowther but probably wouldn't fit the Ambiguously Gay trope because she isn't so ambiguous as Gowther. With Gowther, what crossdressing and actions he does makes him ambiguous considering that he is an ambiguity.

Yes I know that Gowther is not human, giant, fairy, or anything like that. He's what we know so far is that he's a emotionless non emotion understanding robot, basically like a Vulcan from Star Trek. However, simply being that should not make excluded from Ambiguously Gay when he is presented in such a manner especially in a series with multiple Interspecies Romances.

Of note, my argument is really not that Gowther is outright gay. It's that he is Ambiguously Gay. I think there's a difference. It's that he has certain traits that can be perceived as being gay however it can't be confirmed as of yet due to lack of info. He might be gay due to those hints that I've stated or he might not be and I might be looking too much into them. Point is, he fits the Ambiguously Gay trope.

Another note, your initial argument is that Threader fits Ambiguously Gay because there are hints that he might gay while Gowther doesn't understand emotions. Why are Threader's hints taken into consideration, while Gowther's hints are not. It's merely on the basis that he doesn't understand emotions and such. Considering Gowther has relationships with other people, such as the kid Pelio, despite not understanding emotions, wouldn't that mean Gowther is probably capable of relationships much deeper than. I mean if we were to be getting into the complicated matter of asexuality, which we can presume Gowther to be, from what I understand asexuals are still capable of happy relationships, and I think that some of said relationships can be of the homosexual kind. It's complicated but that's what I understand from the topic.

In that scene, there is only one knight that talks to Gowther. It's easy to get 100% consistency with only one sample. Hell, given the armor, we don't even know that that was a guy for sure. At least three people view Ban as their lover, one of them a big burly guy.

Emotionless non emotion understanding robot is kind of the point I've been making. He doesn't get those things, so he has no hesitation doing anything that crosses his mind. It never occurs to him it might be wrong. Hell, for all we know he's the sin of lust because a hundred years ago the queen fell in love with him, demanded that he sleep with her and the king threw him in prison since execution wasn't working. Also, vulcans both have and understand emotions.

If you look at it really superficially, he might fit, but that's only if you ignore the actual joke and the actual point of every scene he's in while ignoring the ones that don't fit. The joke with Gowther has always been a failure to understand emotions or motivations and the way he simply copies people's behavior or what he sees. The stupid poses, copying both parts in a romance novel and then acting them out, reading Ban's mind to reveal he was totally sabotaging his team mates for shits and giggles etc.

There are two knights. One knight at the top panel with a certain set of armor that hugs Gowther, and another at one of the middle panels with a completely different set that says "Gowther, my love for you knows no bounds". That's two knights for Gowther. For Ban, there is one guy that calls him Big Bro, one who thinks his outfit is cool, and three who apparently fell in love with him. There is also one guy who wants to take a bath with one of the Sins but it's not specified who.

Yes that's only two for Gowther, but the way it's framed and presented gives precedence that Gowther probably only brainwashed the knights into thinking that he was their lover. Yes, we don't know if they were men or women, however for the sake of simplicity, lets assume that all of the knights who ambushed the Sins then were men due to whole armor thing.

Yes you've been constantly making the point that since Gowther is that, he can't be Ambiguously Gay because being that means he isn't A character with stereotypically gay traits, but indeterminable sexual orientation. You can say that simply being that type of being automatically makes his sexual orientation determinable and can be classified as asexual. However, in truth we really don't know if he really is actually asexual. We can assume that no emotion = asexuality at best, however it's really indeterminable since we don't know that much about Gowther. What we do know is that he looks and often acts like a girl, and brainwashed guys into thinking he was their lover which at best at the moment can be seen as Ambiguously Gay because such things are stereotypically gay traits.

Yes the overall and constant joke is that Gowther doesn't know emotions. However correlating with that joke is that he often comes across as looking gay even though he might not be. Which I believe is what Ambiguously Gay kinda covers.

What's really wrong with saying that Gowther fits the Ambiguously Gay trope when he constantly shows ambiguously gay traits. It's not confirming that he's gay, straight, or otherwise, just that comes off as looking as gay.

References to Meliodas' species.

There areseveral places where Meliodas is referred to as a half-demon. Though we should mention his relation to the Demon Clan, he has never been explicitly called that, and most evidence seems to point to him just being a straight-up demon without any human at all.
