I'm not sure Agatha Harkness belongs here. Watch the latest episode and you'll see what I mean.
Hide / Show RepliesGiven that she’s threatening the lives of Wanda’s kids at the end of the episode, I think it’s safe for her to stay here unless she’s otherwise proven altruistic by next week’s episode. It won’t hurt anything to leave it as is for now.
Edited by MujakiPersonally I think moving her here was premature, but I also think moving her anywhere else would also be premature so may as well keep her here for a week and decide if she fits then.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.I agree with Larkmarn. It was premature, but let us wait and see before making further changes.
I'm kinda wondering if I should put a (spoilers) warning next to Andre Deschaine's name and undo the spoilers. At this point, it's hard to talk about him without bringing up his true colors.
Hide / Show RepliesYou really should. Just call his folder D'spayre and add "(Unmarked Spoilers)"
There's currently a bit of an argument going on about whether or not Mysterio's personality qualifies as Adaptational Jerkass or Adaptational Villainy, mostly due to the flexible definitions of both tropes. Given that the comic book version of Mysterio is not someone who would attempt child murder — in contrast with the MCU's version of the character — I would argue that "Villainy" is the better fit of the two (as we're going from run-of-the-mill villainy to outright monstrousness). "Jerkass" doesn't make sense to me, considering that Mysterio is already a Faux Affably Evil Manipulative Bastard in the comics.
Hide / Show RepliesThe Mysterio of Old Man Logan did orchestrate Wolverine killing mutant students and so on.
So that fits in Adaptation Distillation
I haven't read the comics but as I understand it the distinction is as follows:
- "good" in the source media -> "evil" in the adaptation = Adaptational Villainy
- "evil" in the source media-> more "evil" in the adaptation = Adaptational Jerkass
- Ideal Hero in the source media -> Anti-Hero in the adaptation = Adaptational Jerkass
- "evil" in the source media-> less "evil" in the adaptation = Adaptational Nice Guy
- Anti-Hero in the source media -> Ideal Hero in the adaptation = Adaptational Nice Guy
- "evil" in the source media -> "good" in the adaptation = Adaptational Heroism
I.e. Adaptational Heroism / Adaptational Villainy are about the switch of alignment, while Adaptational Nice Guy / Adaptational Jerkass are about being nicer or more of a jerk without changing alignment.
Mysterio would be an Adaptational Jerkass
PS To add to that. When changes happen within the story itself, the equivalent tropes would be:
- Took a Level in Kindness / Took a Level in Jerkass — for Adaptational Nice Guy / Adaptational Jerkass
- Heel–Face Turn / Face–Heel Turn — for Adaptational Heroism / Adaptational Villainy
I would like to propose adding these tropes to Mysterio's folder:
- Engineered Heroics: That whole business with the Elementals is a scam. In reality, Beck is using holograms and weapon drones to put people in danger so he can make a show of saving them.
- Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Even after Tony sacrifices himself to save the universe, Beck doesn't seem to understand why everyone sees Stark as a hero. He also seems to think that putting people in danger just so he can rescue them makes him a good person, and that killing innocents to maintain his facade is totally justified.
- Evil Is Petty: Beck takes everything way too personally and overreacts to every slight, real or imagined. Even after he dies, he manages to manipulate events to ruin Peter's life from beyond the grave.
- Jerkass: At the end of the day, he's nothing but a petty, vindictive, self-absorbed asshole.
- Tautological Templar: Beck seems to be under the delusion that every horrible thing he does is justified because he's a self-proclaimed "hero."
Monster Protection Racket is already added and it is a Sub-Trope of Engineered Heroics, so you can't add the latter. All the rest are ok.
I have a suggestion, why don't we do the same thing with this page as with its DCEU's counterpart, and place each characters in different sections according to the hero(es) they fought (such as "Enemies of Iron Man", "Enemies of Hulk", "Enemies of Ant-Man", "Enemies of The Avengers", "Enemies of SHIELD", "Enemies of Ghost Rider", "Enemies of Jessica Jones", etc.) ? In this way, the page will seem better organized and the characters will be easier to find. What do you think?
