The steamroller of my editing now arrives in the past.

I removed quotation marks around "those who slither in the dark" because that is a description, not a name.

I replaced instances of "Nabatean(s)" with "Child(ren) of the Goddess", since that is the term used in the game.

Tropes I removed:

Nemesis

  • Multiple-Choice Past: There are three different versions of the story of his life that the player hears over the course of the game.
    • The official Church version is that Nemesis was a hero of men who received the Sword of the Creator as a divine gift and defeated evil gods in battle, but was corrupted by his power and had to be put down by Saint Seiros and the 10 Elites.
    • On the Crimson Flower route, Edelgard gives the version of the story passed down through each emperor. In this version, he was an all powerful king whose war with Seiros was motivated by what type of ruler should lead mankind (a mistranslation as in Japanese Edelgard makes no claim of knowing why they fought, only that it wasn't due to Nemesis becoming a fallen hero), and that Seiros killed Nemesis to take power in Fódlan. It's also stated that the relics were created by mankind. The dev interviews gives some more context to this as it confirms dragons did hold the positions of rulers of Fódlan in the distant past and that this motivated the Agarthans' hatred, who long after their war with the Nabateans would use Nemesis as a culmination of their desire to take the powers of the Nabateans for themselves. Said interview also notes however that for her part Seiros had no personal desire to rule over humans, but rather wished to preserve the peace and prevent another continent-wide war by taking over and establishing the Church.
    • On the Verdant Wind (and to a less detailed extent on the Silver Snow) route, Rhea states that Nemesis was a bandit who somehow located and broke into the Holy Tomb, murdered the goddess Sothis in her sleep, then had unknown allies (by the end of the game revealed to have been those who slither in the dark) forge the Sword of the Creator out of her remains, along with using her blood to give him the Crest of Flames. With this weapon of incredible power and his Crest resonating with it to grant even more power, he went to Zanado and massacred the Nabateans living there, his dark allies using the corpses and blood gained to create the Heroes' Relics and Crests. The sheer amount of blood that flowed and stained the walls of the land would give Zanado a new name, the Red Canyon. An enraged and traumatized Rhea was the sole survivor in Zanado (her other surviving kin being elsewhere at the time), and she took on the name Seiros as she organized people against him in what would become known as "The War of Heroes". Nearly a century later, she finally had her revenge, defeating him in battle and killing him, the war eventually ending some years later. In the aftermath, she used her authority and resources to rewrite history to make sure the remaining Nabateans wouldn't be killed to make more Heroes' Relics (as well as other purposes). Arundel, aka Thales, an actual Agarthan, refers to him as a "thief" in every route, supporting this version of the story. Maurice, one of Nemesis' allies, further implies that the "King of Liberation" title may have initially been a reference to how many people Nemesis had killed (i.e. "liberated" of their lives). A book in Abyss and his in-game info as a enemy unit give extra perspective on what is revealed in Verdant Wind. Namely his info as a unit states "Under the pretense of liberating Fódlan from a reign of deception, this king rallied his people to arms in the War of Heroes," suggesting he used deceit/manipulation to gain influence and go to war. An ancient text in Abyss, likely written by one of the 10 Elites, has them regret accepting "his offer," which could mean he offered Crests and Relic weapons to gain their and their clan's loyalty and legitimize himself as a king. It also indicates Nemesis never told at least some of them the truth of how he acquired the Crests and Hero's Relics, as the writer is at a loss as to what King Nemesis could have done to incur such "unyielding wrath" from Seiros.

MCP is about vagueness and retcons. Nemesis has one origin, which we find out in VW. The official records were always intended to be false. Also, Edelgard doesn't say anything about why he and Seiros went to war Literally all she says is that that war "was a simple dispute". That's it. She says NOTHING about them arguing over what type of ruler should lead humanity. The English version is in agreement with the Japanese version and there is no inconsistency. Seriously, where does this meme come from?

  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: A thief that raided a temple, got some 'treasures' and with it, formed regalias that shaped one's country's history and left his mark on history? Nemesis is basically a throwback to Archanea's founder, Adrah, only having more prominence and his atrocities put more on highlight.

This trope doesn't apply across continuities.

Seiros

  • Body Horror: Unlike the sleek and pristine form it is in the other routes, her Immaculate One form at the end of the Silver Snow route looks like she's rotting, possibly as a way to indicate just how out of control she is.

No it doesn't. It's spiky, but doesn't look like it's decaying.

  • Jesus Was Crazy: More like "Saint Peter Was Crazy." Her intentions were largely good (to maintain the legacy of her species and to prevent war from destroying Fódlan as it had in the past) and the church accomplished many great things, but suffice to say, as an emotionally traumatized dragon, Seiros was not necessarily the ideal being to oversee Fódlan's development. In routes where she survives, she even chooses to give up some (Silver Snow) or all (Azure Moon) of her authority to Byleth, believing herself no longer worthy of wielding so much influence. On the Crimson Flower route, her insanity is brought much more into the forefront and the player sees how far she is willing to go to defeat her enemies.

This trope is actually about Jesus.

  • Multicolored Hair: Seiros in the opening cinematic of Three Houses is shown to have mainly blonde hair with light green tips, which her appearance in Heroes follows. Averted in the Crimson Flower route where her hair is wholly light green like in her Rhea identity.

That's just lighting.

She's actually a pretty standard dragon.

From that very link you posted, Edelgard states the dispute was "Should the one leading the people of the world be someone with humanity or a creature that can merely masquerade as a human at will?" Then she proceeds to say that Seiros was victorious and she and her family took over. That is where the "meme" comes from.

From what I was told way back when those entries were made, in the Japanese version she says "they simply fought" rather than claiming to know why they fought as she does in English. Perhaps this is in error, but I'd like to see a source on it not being a mistranslation as a number of mistranslations in this game have been fairly well documented.

I have to say I also think that we should apply some other fitting tropes to some of these entries rather than erasing them completely. They're pretty good summaries of what the different routes reveal about Nemesis.

This isn't an error nor a mistranslation. Both versions of the script intend to communicate that by saying "it was a dispute/they simply fought", the narrative the Church claims about Nemesis being a Fallen Hero put out of his misery is simply not true.

Should Nemesis also get the unmarked spoiler treatment? He's also pretty important in the grand scheme of things. Or does Seiros get it just because of her true identity?

Not sure. His overall importance isn't revealed until Golden Deer's post-timeskip, and even then, some of revelations regarding his actions are not explained in some routes.
