I'll take a crack at it.
- When the SU art book was released a number of fans criticized Concrete, a character concept found within the sketches. Concrete's design resembled that of a racial caricature and her description as illiterate drew a lot of criticism to the book. Rebecca Sugar responded with an apology and stated that they'd pull it from subsequent releases and the artist Lamar Abrams apologized on his blog and redrew her to seem less stereotypical. Some felt that the staff handled criticism well and appreciated that they took steps to fix their mistake whilst others felt the apologies were hollow and just attempts to save face.
Can someone help fix up Concrete's example so it sounds less like Thread Mode?
- Concrete from the SU Artbook has been accused of racial stereotyping. Despite this, plenty of fans like her design. Still, many people were upset, prompting Rebecca Sugar to give an apology. Some people accept the apology. Others think her design is incredibly racist and accuse anyone who likes her design or defends the Crewniverse as also being racist, and refuse to accept the apology until the person who designed Concrete is fired. Yet others point out that Concrete as shown in the SU Artbook is nothing but a character concept and claim anyone who would call Rebecca Sugar "racist" after creating a show that promotes acceptance and diversity is no more than seeing racism where it doesn't exist.
