Interesting analysis, but what does it mean by "Also unlike torture or murder, [rape] has the possibility to actually create an additional victim or victims of the crime"? Rape by Proxy? Child by Rape? Rape affect those close to the victim, but so do murder and torture. Rape can have multiple victims at once, but the same is true for the other two.

very good article I must say, but some parts left me thinking:
It says it's impossible to justify rape: Well It's not impossible if you can justify torture to "find information to help millions", rape is a form of torture in itself, actually I think some would prefer to be tortured with a penis shoved up their ass rather than a metal rod. The article says about extreme torture at some point, but I think it might be expanded, or saying that rape is comparable with these forms of torture where you completely mutilate someone else's body. Maybe rape is not so unique after all.
I also think it's good to add a paragraph about this "rape=worst crime" not being an universal idea, one example is male victims, people treat them like some stupid butt monkeys, and they might even be gay now.
And there's one exception where rape is 100% justifiable (by society, don't get mad at me): it's when male rapists go to prison and get raped, people don't get any shred of sympathy for them and get delighted by their suffering, and if they are child rapists the justification just gets worse.
It deserves a mention about rape vs gore: In real gore, people get weirdly fascinated by extreme torture. There are some videos online (3guys1hammer, funkytown, ...) where people discuss and get weirdly fascinated by the extreme brutality in front of them, I'm not saying this is widely considered "just morbid curiosity"-type behavior, some people might get genuinely afraid of you if they learn that you consume such videos, but when you compare this to rape, the difference is very noticeable. It's almost impossible to find real rape videos, and anybody would think you're a dangerous psychopath if you watched some, and you would be a real criminal if the victim in the video is a minor. In respect to fiction it's the same, extreme torture is loads of fun, rape is more controversial, porn can be more loose and rape might be funny or a just a fetish, but such works are looked with weird eyes by newcomers more commonly.
