-->\\\"Foil is \\\'\\\'not\\\'\\\' \\\"I can make cool observations about these characters\\\". It\\\'s a deliberate choice made by the writers to emphasize two characters by making them contrast. Considering Krem and Dorian never even speak or do anything that would invite comparison in story, Foil is a huge stretch.\\\"

While I understand what helter is saying, I don\\\'t agree for a few reasons. For one, author intent is only a good measuring stick if it\\\'s available. Otherwise, we have to go by story composition. In this case, Krem and Dorian both give two very different accounts of life in Tevinter--one as a mage noble and the other as a non-mage commoner. The stark contrast does actually highlight the two characters. Nothing in the trope page itself states that the characters must interact or even that one need be more than a brief extra.
