Thing is, the creators are not shilling him to the heavens and beyond as the best and most fantastic character ever (some of the fans might, but that\'s a whole \'nother thing). Note that the people in-universe who side-eye him pretty hard for his choices are not portrayed as at all unreasonable for it. The Powers That Be are not telling us where out sympathies should lie, and they do not make him steal the spotlight from the actual hero of the story. So no, he does not qualify, in my opinion.
