It wasn\'t a vague statement though imo. The interpretations were both clear cut. There were only two interpretations, with one being more fringe. And the implication wasn\'t that he needed him to be alive. That was only an interpretation, that was the less likely interpretation of that statement. The implication could very well have been that he will take over once Ichigo dies. And that has nothing to do with Yammy, where the statements were contradicting. That there were two contradicting statements means that something more was going on, which turned out to be the case.
