TV Tropes, please take out those additional bumps, I just meant to bump just now, but did not mean to post again. Thanks.

Does this seem familiar to anyone? Please. I do not know if the male character was a warlock or a wizard, but he definitely looked like a male witch to me. I wish I can find this old tape, it was recorded on VHS.

  1. 2 was in the vein of those comicolor cartoons, someone once suggested Gagamel from the Smurfs, but it was not him. Could have been a Smurfs episode, but I doubt it.

bump

O-k, since I am not getting any responses, strangely, I just asked this on another site. Hopefully I will get more responses there. Look, I do not mean to be insistent, but it has been a long time since I saw this cartoon and I was hoping you guys can find it out, since you have responded to the most obscure queries. Feel free to make a guess. I deserve a guess as much as anyone else here, and I am guessing several must at least come to this site. I am going to find this out one way or another, but come on guys. You can get this.

In that case, it sounds like something Mighty Mouse would have done...?

thestormtrooper Since: Nov, 2013

It was not Mighty Mouse, I cannot remember any other characters. All I remember is some sort of wizard like character, warlock rather, singing about sprinkling dust on the ground making some sort of gold. It was not King Midas.

Still no luck, but I was wondering if this was Halloween oriented. The short was quite possibly from the 50s, but it was definitely colorized and was definitely similar to the Comicolor cartoons, but after looking those up, I do not think this was one. Perhaps I am not remembering this as well as I think I do. Any guesses at all? Please help.

bump again, someone's got to know this

Look, I am sorry about all the bumps, but I find it a bit mean that none of you are responding to this query, or any of my queries actually. Some actually much more descriptive than others. You might not know the answer, but you can at least guess and if you can respond to others then you can respond to me, I deserve one as well. I know you guys watch TV and movies too, one of you has to have the answer. I am trying to ask nicely, but I guess I must start asking elsewhere. This site is not as helpful as it used to be, so thanks a lot.

If people have no idea they can't guess. There's no point in making a post just to say you don't know the answer, so you shouldn't take it personally if people don't respond.

thestormtrooper Since: Nov, 2013

I looked at most of the queries, most replies are guesses, and I find it funny how I rarely receive any responses even to the most obvious queries, such as the Meg novel one and the Cold Case episode one, yet nearly everyone is, despite how nicely I can ask. People can be a bit, no much more, helpful. I am thankful though that only one tried to guess to my query though, but as I said, surely I am not the only one who can know.

If no one here knows, they can at least suggest some places where I can find my answer, or as I said the short I saw was similar to the Comicolor cartoons so why not suggest a link that has information on those, they can still help even if they do not know.

Well I guess I Can at least explain that the lack of answers doesn't look related to politeness, to me:

  • answering "i'm sorry, I don't know either", while it may initially provide a modicum of emotional support, served no actual purpose and would get old really fast,
  • I don't know any useful websites either
  • Your questions are usually thought-out and detailed enough that there's no point in asking for more details either.
So I don't see what could be done, except maybe upvoting the question (which doesn't really fit tvtw's culture; in my understanding on this board it's more used as a "me too").

Well, I figured since many other queries can be figured out, mine can as well. The internet is a big place, and I do not know how many check this site, but I know I am not the only one who saw this show, movie, etc. No one might know what it is, but as I said, people can still guess, and perhaps point me in a direction where I can be helped. If they can help others here, then they can help me. I am not expecting everyone to have the answer, but I am expecting at least some help every now and then. It is not too much to ask, honestly, and I find it a bit strange that in most of my queries rarely anyone responded, yet in nearly every other query, someone has and I am not talking about people bumping their queries. How much stuff have I seen that no one knows?

How much stuff have you seen that no one knows? At this point, it's safe to assume it's a lot.

Another factor that might contribute to lack of answers is maybe people who don't have replies opened by default assume that any entry with over ten replies has been swamped with too much help. If they don't open the replies to see the long line of "bumps" they won't be proven wrong.

If my hypothesis is correct, you might benefit from decreasing the frequency of your bumps. My personal guideline for my own bumps is waiting until both a few days have passed and my query (or someone else's that I'm actively hunting for) is either in the middle of the second page or past that point. I haven't gotten scolded for bumping too frequently yet.

If not for this anchor I'd be dancing between the stars. At least I can try to write better vampire stories than Twilight.

You are right, I apologize for bumping too much. I can see how it can get pretty annoying, and confusing, but I have been on here for years and some, if not most, of the people here are usually quite helpful. I know I can be rude at times, I try not to be, perhaps that is one reason why it seems I am "avoided" much, but I think we all have the feeling of knowing something for too long, such as a book, a song, or a movie, and not being able to identify it. I still find it weird though that not one person knows almost any of my queries, if not all my queries, I do not know how many go to this site, but I am sure at least someone out there on the internet must have watched the same show I have, or read the book I same did, or listened to the same song that I heard. The internet is a huge place. I apologize for being so whiny, but it would be nice to have responses every now and then. You might now know the answer, but you can still guess, or lead me to someplace where I can find the answer (for example, if I want to find a "B" movie, refer me to a wiki for finding B movies, or I want to find a certain episode of a show and I cannot manage to find them then refer a link with episode summaries, so on). You can still try to help and not know the answer.

It is not Dragon Tales, but thank you for the suggestion, I remember seeing it around 1994-1995, but the cartoon looked like those 50s-60s Comicolor cartoons (think Popeye). I cannot recall the studio or any other characters just the male singing warlock/wizard who kept walking as he was singing throwing sprinkles onto the ground making some sort of gold, cannot remember what for. If I recall correctly, he put his arms to his face a lot as if he was trying to be sneaky. There was also a lit barn and it was nighttime. I am sorry that is all I can remember, all I know is if I locate that stupid VHS tape, I will be able to identify it, perhaps I should look for the tape. Thank you guys who have helped me in my queries, it seems to me that I watch the most mysterious stuff, maybe it is because I'm weird.

I think I have a couple of narrowing-down or broadening-out questions for your second query. Are you sure the character was a wizard/warlock/male witch and not a vampire? Bringing his arms to his face in a "sneaky" manner seems like more of a vampiric gesture to me (You Know That Thing Where vampires cover their faces with their capes?) - unless he was coughing or sneezing into his elbow (which, by the way, is the method humans are supposed to use to cover their coughs and sneezes when no tissue is handy).

Also, singing while trying to be sneaky is the trope With Catlike Tread - I read through the examples there and unfortunately none of them match your description.

PS: I, at least, accept your apologies and forgive you.

I do apologize greatly to everyone, I have been using this forum for years and found this forum quite helpful. Things have just been quite stressful these past few weeks, birthday, job, cold, ugh. Anyway, Miss Desperado, I appreciate the response and the effort, and that you searched that trope. It is quite possible I am not remembering this correctly, as I have already asked posters from at least five different forums already, but I am quite sure the male character was/is not a vampire. I automatically thought male witch when I saw him, he was wearing the black robe, the hood and all, and we could only see his face. I do not know for sure if he was bringing his arms to his face, but I think so, at least at times. He did seem mischievous, and once again, I doubt he is a vampire, a vampire I doubt would not sprinkle something on the ground to make gold, I cannot remember why he was making gold, but I know it was gold. I also think it was nighttime and took place outside a lit barn. I cannot remember any other characters. I know it was a musical short, animation similar to Comicolor cartoons as I said, perhaps A Cowboy Needs a Horse from Silly Symphonies. I did ask this on this forum several months ago, I think it was that long, and someone suggested Gargamel from the Smurfs, but he looked taller and his voice sounded deeper. I know it is not the King Midas Silly Symphonies short, it is not the Humpty Dumpty short that was Betty Boop style, or the Aladdin and the Magical Lamp Comicolor short (quite similar animation though).

If I could only find that blasted tape. I will try to search for it this weekend. I know it is on it for sure. I appreciate the help, but I cannot understand why no one knows this at all. I know I am not the only one who ever saw it.

I recently found found a Noveltoon titled Leprechaun's Gold from 1949, that is not it, unfortunately, but it is similar to what I am searching for. Perhaps I find search Noveltoons, I just might find this, crossing fingers.

Did the wizard fit the Dastardly Whiplash archetype?

I do not think he was that type of villain, but it has been a while since I last saw it. Thank you for trying though. I will desperately try to find that tape. I know for sure it was on that tape, but I do not know where it could be.

Oh my god, I found it. I was searching through my garage to find VHS tapes, and I found the one with the short, it is Happy Valley (1952) Terrytoons Aesop's Fable classic cartoons. Finally.

Are you talking about dragon tales?

thestormtrooper Since: Nov, 2013

  1. 1 is Star Wishes
  2. 2 is Happy Valley (a Terrytoon cartoon)

I recognize now that those of you suggesting Dragon Tales is suggesting a possibility for #1, but I already solved both. Thank you all for trying though.
