Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread

Vote for changing that. I kind of see the joke being made, but I'm not sure how well it works. And that kind of joke does negate the purpose of a Laconic page, which is a brief explanation of what the trope/page is.
I'm going to check to see who wrote that.
Edit: That joke has been there for 5 years, and it and the Laconic page were written by a troper named nlpnt. Since it's so far back, I'm not sure what we do besides change the laconic.
Edited by jameygamerI don't get it. Discs and other media storage are horse-drawn carriages, and streaming content is an automobile, maybe? The Laconic isn't a puzzle for readers to figure out.
Edited by rodneyAnonymous Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.Yeah it's been like that for 5 years, and that, plus the fact that I wasn't sure if unilaterally changing it is allowed, is why I'm asking here. But a Laconic description is for a clear, short description; not for a puzzle.
Discs and other media storage are horse-drawn carriages, and streaming content is an automobile
That's what they were getting at yes - I admit that is witty and funny, but Laconic is simply not the place for that.
How about changing it to "Disc for digital media storage that can hold enough data to not only hold a movie but also lots of extra's" or something. Well that's extremely boring, but at least gets the job done.
I think the joke is a bit inappropriate - it's a Take That! against a whole technology, and the purpose of a Useful Note is not really to point fingers.
BTW, just for the sake of completeness, I'm not sure the joke is pitting Blu Ray against streaming - when it comes to data storage (rather than media distribution) it's rather optical storage against hard drives and even flash memory. And there optical media really are horse buggies today.
Edited by GnomeTitanI think it falls afoul of having to go anywhere else (especially offsite!) to understand it. Replace it.
Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving. -Terry PratchettO.K. replaced the Laconic with the one mentioned above (Boring But Practical, but can't think of anything better right now, feel free to improve), and put the joke into the Main (Useful Notes) page.
The Laconic of Blu-Ray (a Useful Notes page) is:
The best horse-drawn buggy in what's becoming an automobile world.
(I was initially baffled by what it meant, and only when I noticed "automobile world" potholes to YouTube , It Made Sense In Context - sort of.)
This seems way too cryptic and vague for a Laconic. How about changing it to something more Captain Obvious / Exactly What It Says on the Tin?
