There's no need to cut them wholesale. They're fun for people who like that sort of thing. But we don't need to be making any more of them.

I figure the older articles have already been grandfathered in (hence why there are some still around, right), but what about the subwiki? Just keep an eye out for new pages coming out and cutlist the new pages or leave 'em be?

Concerning the drafts in TLP, I figure some of them can be revised into something that's not a sliding scale or something that relies heavily on types. Or should they all be nuked indiscriminately? I honestly thought there were only three drafts when I started to make this query but then I actually double checked and there's kind of a lot in the TLP backlog.

^^ Have you seen SlidingScale.Home Page? I don't think there should be a "sliding scale" namespace, I doubt its creation was discussed. The format and content of the articles in it are dissimilar to any other article on the site. The whole idea of having a small and differently-styled (and probably unauthorized) "sub-wiki" within TVT seems silly.

It's just a way to get around having to go through TLP, and an attempted loophole for creating new sliding scale articles even though we don't want any.

"Some people like it" isn't a good reason to keep something. Some people liked Troper Tales.

The home page has been around since at least January of 2012. That's the date of the oldest edit, which is not the creation of the page, it's the deletion of an entry.

It's really one of those things that isn't helping the wiki, but doesn't appear to be doing it any damage, either. It's filed away and mostly forgotten, unless there are wick issues that nobody's mentioned.

Frankly, we really don't need to take on more huge clean-up jobs in side areas of the wiki. We've got huge ones in the main namespace that are begging for manpower.

It is not a huge clean-up job, it is 20 articles that should not exist. Almost all of them have only one wick (to the SlidingScale.Home Page article). If cut they would sink without a ripple.

Eh, I agree that they're not causing any harm right now (although, if they do damage the wiki proper, I'd vote to burn them in heartbeat). They don't seem to be garnering a huge amount of wicks or inbounds. I say keep the ones on the namespace unless they become an issue.

For the drafts, I'd see if they can be revised into actual tropes. But if some will take significant work from the ground up, nuke them.

Honestly, my opinion is that sliding scales should not be tropes, they should be indexes of similar tropes like the one for anthropmoshism.

I like that.

I think the namespace should go, though.

^^ Not all sliding scales are list of tropes, though. See: Sliding Scale of Idealism vs. Cynicism or Sliding Scale Of Plot Vs Characters.

Those that don't list tropes seem to be easier to use, as their use is just "where this work falls on the scale".

And no, Troper Tales was genuinely problematic, right? Like others said, the Sliding Scale homepage and its pages aren't doing any harm.

Hi Guys,

I currently have a trope under the title "Philanthropic Vs Selfish Extremism" at the TLP

Just wanted to make this trope as the use of Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist has been cropping up a lot as a means of stealth complaining about certain characters. Figured that by combining them into a trope help circumvent any future Edit Wars.

Would it be alright to make it into a sliding scale?

Cheers

You should've just made this into a separate ATT.
