Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.

Bump.
I know more about obscure 1990s Middle Grade Literature novels than most people. Is it even necessary to mention wearing overalls without a shirt? It can be a fashion trope or a fanservice trope, but without that context it seems a bit like people sitting on chairs. Yes, some people go shirtless if it's warm outside, but people go shirtless with jeans or shorts or other kinds of clothes as well, and doing it with overalls seems to carry no special significance - unless it's done for fanservice or as a fashion statement.
Also: No offense, but it can be interpreted as an attempt to sneak in a fetishy comment in a non-sexual context, something that gives off somewhat unsavoury vibes. I'm not accusing you or anyone else of actually doing that, I'm just saying that it can be interpreted that way, so you may want to avoid that. (Just for the record, I'm not being a prude here - I just know how people tend to (over)interpret the text).
Edited by GnomeTitanOriginally I wrote it to not mention shirtlessness at all outside of the fifth category with a nod to the fanservice side which was a concession in its way. I didn't think it was worth mentioning outside of that (if at all). It was recently added in by Gofastmike. I don't think it's notable under the work trope at all.
(Edited for clarity.)
Edited by Nethilia I know more about obscure 1990s Middle Grade Literature novels than most people.Bump: is this something I can safely remove without causing an edit war?
I know more about obscure 1990s Middle Grade Literature novels than most people.Another bump; I'd like to make sure I can remove the fanservice-y parts added. I've received no replies from Gofastmike, but they've done edits since this opened.

Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI've tried twice but let's try a third:
I know more about obscure 1990s Middle Grade Literature novels than most people. Thanks, I think I've been pinging wrong.
I know more about obscure 1990s Middle Grade Literature novels than most people. If you're looking for a consensus, I already made one, but it died out with zero comments. And with nothing to go on, I had to work off my own experience. You're also wrong about the fanservice part, no fanservice was intended, with the full details being in my query.
Go ahead and cut the bit. It's needlessly granular and grossly overstates the practical valuation of it (as well as the ease of cleaning one's skin) to the point of misinformation.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.~Gofastmike If that ATT post didn't get any comments, then there wasn't a consensus over there. I never saw that post, nor did I see your draft proposal on TLP outside of someone pointing me towards the defunct TLP after I started working on Rough Overalls to get examples for what I was working on. I didn't "steal" a draft, I worked on my own, and since this is a wiki, all efforts to make new tropes are collaborative. I did the work myself with help from the community.
At least two people have said that the part about going without a shirt should be cut. Could you explain why it should stay?
I know more about obscure 1990s Middle Grade Literature novels than most people. There's been no reply after a proper ping, and at least two people have said to cut it. I want to make sure I'm not edit warring when I do so.

I'd like to discuss recent changes on the Rough Overalls trope.
I'd like to discuss this with said editor and the community. I think it doesn't do the trope any good to mention the shirtlessness so prominently under messy jobs when it's mentioned in the fanservice "not as prominent" trope already, and the part about blue collar/messy jobs should be more about the labor side of things.
Edited for typos and clarifications.
