Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread

Either a bug or the image you're submitting is wrong. Try opening the image locally and re-saving in MS Paint or something.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupThis has happened to me when I've saved a WEBP file by overwriting a PNG. The computer says it's a PNG, but if you actually do anything with it it's still a WEBP internally, and TV Tropes can't upload WEBPs. So the uploader sees the PNG and tries to upload it, but can't because it's actually a WEBP, but doesn't give an error message since it still thinks you gave it a PNG. It's very weird.
Like Amonimus said, you can fix it by opening the image and resaving it as a proper PNG.
Ok, I re-saved the image on MS Paint and it worked. Thanks, guys.
Welcome to the Fight Cloud Network.^^ What does "overwriting a PNG" mean? If you're changing the file extension, it doesn't convert it, it's just part of the name. The computer doesn't actually check what the file type the file really is (even though checking if it starts with "RIFF WEBPVP" would be easy).
Sorry, got ninja'd and the query was already solved.
Edited by Amonimus TroperWall / WikiMagic Cleanup^ If you save a WEBP over top of an existing PNG, it will save "as a PNG" but still acts like a WEBP for some reason. I'm a not computer person at all, but when I save a WEBP it has the Paint.net symbol in the bottom corner and TV Tropes will reject it if I try to upload it. If I save that same WEBP overtop of a preexisting PNG, it won't have that symbol and I get the bug that the OP was describing.
Murloc, it sounds like you're saving a WEBP as "image.png" instead of "image.webp". As you've noticed, changing a file's extension doesn't actually convert it to a new filetype; what you have in this case is still a WEBP, just incorrectly labeled as a PNG, and computers will treat it accordingly (i.e. pretty badly, as they're expecting a PNG and getting a WEBP).
The solution to this is to don't do that. If you want to convert a WEBP into a PNG, convert it properly by opening it in an image editor and re-saving it.
Edited by wingedcatgirl Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing.I'd think you're still really saving it as WEBP but giving it a PNG name of the previous file, but two contrasting scenarios are interesting.
So here's another thing to watch out for when uploading images.
TroperWall / WikiMagic Cleanup^^ I know, I understand. I'm just explaining what happened to the OP because it happened to me too.
How do I lock this thread?
Welcome to the Fight Cloud Network.A mod will come and lock it.
Kaito is an alien and he is kinda spacey, coming from the universe to party and go crazy!
I'm trying to create a folder for an easter egg character in https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Characters/FiveNightsAtTreasureIsland that are called "DEEZ & NUTS" (they are joke characters), but for some reason when I use the "media uploader" and press the "submit" button, it doesn't do anything, and the image is nowhere to be found on the image list. What am I supposed to do?
Here's the image in question:https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/treasurei/images/1/18/Deez_extras.png/revision/latest?cb=20211006202115
