Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
I mean, if you post it without a sufficient explanation then that makes it a Zero Context Example, no?
No, I meant that the explanation was missing from the source. I would definitely include the explanation in the example itself.
Still haven't gotten an answer.
If I'm understanding correctly, you want to trope an entry from a website, except that it no longer exists on that website, correct?
If that is the case, I wouldn't add it personally as the bare minimum for a tropable work is that it does have to exist.
I didn't choose the troping life, the troping life chose me
I was planning to add something to Irony.Web Original, but I can't seem to find the original example that I was planning to post. The website is still active, but the part I was planning to reference seems to have been lost.
The example is as follows: In the Misheard Lyrics section of amiright.com, a user posted an entry for Skid Row's "18 And Life". They thought that the line "Your crime is time" was actually "You're promised time" and assumed the song was about how when you're young you have your life ahead of you and many opportunities. The song is actually about a boy whose alcoholism led him into a troubled life, culminating in him committing a heinous crime for which he's arrested and convicted (the title refers to his prison sentence), so his life has little opportunity.
The part that was lost explained what they assumed the song was about and even admitted the misunderstanding was rather ironic. But can I still post this without the explanation?
