As your friendly neighborhood Admin Team, the gang here at TVTropes HQ is always working to improve the site.
Many of those improvements begin with suggestions posted right here, on the Community Wishlist. Is there a feature you really want on TVTropes? Post it.
Is there something we could be doing better? We want to know. Do you think we look fat in these pants? We were totally afraid of that. See a bug? Report it.
Important things to know:
- We're all about that content-creation life! The top contenders for our attention are ideas that'll create more content, like the video uploading feature, or speed up launching new pages. On the flip side, design or layout tweaks won't be our top priority.
- Help us dig through the goldmine of old wishlist items! If you have an old request gathering dust or spot one you're totally on board with, give it a bump and a like. There's a treasure trove of 6+ years' worth of ideas just waiting to be rediscovered. Items without enough love may not make the cut and will be closed.
- Was your wishlist item locked up without an explanation? It was most likely disapproved or just too big of a task versus the benefit it would ultimately have. Time is precious, and we want to focus on updates with the biggest bang for the buck. Don't be discouraged though! We appreciate every idea and we're always listening.
Make a Tech Wish:
workingSearching in ATT/YKTS/etc. should include the poster
Would it be possible to add the posting troper to the field that "search questions" is searching? This would allow an efficient "find by troper" for ATT, YKTS and even the bug list...
workingThe ability to watch "Related" pages.
I wish that we could have a way to follow the Related page for articles, getting updated on when it gets linked on other pages.
openAcknowledging Toys
Copying what I've said in "Ask The Tropers" here, I think we should add Toys to the filters for "Ask The Tropers", "Trope Finder", and "You Know That Show...", as well as give them a their own subsection under "Media" in the Forums. I mean, we have pages for Toys and Toys get their own folders on some Trope pages, so I don't see why they shouldn't have these.
workingEdit War detector
Since page history tracks who edited what, in theory it should easily notice if a user deletes or adds something they've deleted/added previously and notify a moderator.
openAdd unread badges to Followed Pages.
Please do the same as in Followed Threads and add checkmarks to unread pages, with this color scheme it's impossible to tell.
Alternatively use a more contrasting color scheme.
workingA text formatting toolbar when editing.
I have made this query before, but rather than necroing it, I would add some things, at the same time making my suggestions louder for the tropers at the back can hear.
Because many tropers are editing in mobile now, and since formatting rules differ from website to website, causing confusion, it would be nice to add a formatting toolbar with the most used formatting features for edits for the whole wiki.
workingFeature Request: "Found" status for trope finder.
While browsing Trope Finder, threads should have some kind of flag that reads like "Found", "Not Found", "Proposed", etc. If it is "found", display the found trope. This would presumably be set by the OP and/or moderators.
Edited by Xurikclosed Post Number
Posts on the forums used to have numbers attached to them, which was very useful for many things. Bring them back.
closed Larger image size upload limit
I'm not sure how much larger than it needs to be, but 2 mb is not enough for me to upload pictures from my phone when I want to show something off in the forums.
closed Give a warning when you're trying to leave the editing screen
I've just accidentally closed my browser while making a fairly large edit, losing about 10 minutes of progress. When you're editing Wikipedia and accidentally attempt to close the tab, you're asked if you're sure you want to leave as changes made to the page will be lost. Such a confirmation prompt would be very handy for TVT as it effectively stops a source of data loss. Thank you.
closed Allow users to see a history of their Hollers
As it stands, you can see PMs including notifiers - but there's no record of any hollers you've sent on forums, flagged reviews etc.
It'd be good to have a history of these as well, ideally accompanied by a link to the relevant post/review/whatever
Edited by Mrph1closed An options menu for the random buttons
and more specifically the Random Media button, such selecting what types of media you wish to appear and whether or not to include creators
closed Fix possibly unintended bleed-in error spawned from Post Number Addition
After post numbers were introduced to the forums, some of the "relationship status" text began to bleed into the post numbers. Here's an example:
Needless to say, I'd like for this to be fixed.
EDIT: And I just realized it's possible this might be yet another bug. Should I have posted this in the bug report section?
Edited by JHD0919openAdd the Query Bugs page to the Important Links section on the right side
People like me who have a habit of posting Query Bugs in the Wishlist need a way to easily access them without having to visit a different page first. Otherwise, people might not know (or even if they do, they, myself included, might not remember) the Query Bug page exists to begin with.
(I COULD have suggested to merge the Query Bug page and all its queries into the Wishlist page, but I don't think that's a good idea.)
Edited by JHD0919workingShow red links in the TLP
The TLP comment section does not show you if a link is a red link, all the links there are blue links (maybe Green links show, IDK I haven't seen it). I If this is intentional, then whatever benefits it may have are outweighed by the fact that example linking gets screwed up down there. Since the link is always blue, you don't have any reason to assume something is wrong when adding examples or crosswicking to related tropes. I don't even get why it happens here because red links show up fine in the forums.
openForum search results - thread name display & status
Not entirely sure if this is a wishlist item or a bug, but forum searches currently return partial or misleading thread names and subforums in their results.
For example, it'll show as "Projects: Long Term/Perpetual › Cleanup thread" - but it's actually "Forums > Projects Morgue> Cleanup thread: Magnificent Bastard" when you click through.
Fixing this would be great. It might also be worth either displaying the 'locked' padlock in the search results, or letting forum searches filter out threads with a locked status?
workingRegarding indices
They're currently ordered at the bottom of a page in the order that that index's page was last edited, which creates a constantly-shifting jumble which can get especially confusing for things like films which are listed on many indices. Instead, I propose that they be ordered alphabetically, first by namespacenote , with Main being placed at the beginning, and secondly by page title. I believe that this will make it easier to navigate the list of indices at the bottoms of pages.

The button for pages in the "Myth/" namespace still doesn't have an icon. Wasn't there a discussion about it at some time?
It would be nice if it has one, it's an accepted namespace. I'd suggest something like an Ankh icon.
