Um...what. This has been a couple hours of drama.

Things will blow over quickly. They always do.

And eme, not to add insult to injury, because I love you to bits and I hope you know that, but your reaction right now? It's basically exactly the same as my reaction to the Critic ending in the first place. I think it's a bit of a double-standard. I don't draw attention to it to make fun of you, but just to draw your attention to it, and hope you realize what that month/month and a half was like. -hug-

At the risk of sounding like a gigantic internet troll, do you think its possible we're just getting a little too sensitive about it?
You don't sound like a troll at all. You sound more rational than anyone in this thread has been.

I too think a cooldown lock would be healthy.

Groovy.

Posted in Ask The Tropers to request a lock. Probably should have contacted a mod directly (specifically the one who locked it before whose name escapes me at the moment)...but what can ya do.

@Bad Wolf Yeah I know, and I won't try and defend myself. Just majority being so joyful about it isn't helping.

I CAN'T. I THINK I'VE HAD THE EQUIVALENT OF A STROKE BUT ON THE INTERNET.

But seriously the reaction to this isn't a big deal. It's childish to think we need a time out because some people don't like the direction a series they like is taking. It's normal. It's completely expected and when something you like is ended needlessly there's some strife to be found.

We're adults. We're intelligent people. We can be upset, and we can trade opinions, and we can joke, and we can even change our minds. We don't need a moderator to come and fix things. We're not children, we're mature adults.

Well, legally I guess I'm not but you guys probably are. Probably.

No need to be patronizing. That kind of talk, as well as the gross overreactions and rants, is what led me to request the lock in the first place. Seriously. Just chill out.

Yes, a lock would be good for now. Maybe next time we can just drop the drama and move on like I wanted, please?

I'm Eldritch Tentacle monster from the 13th circle of hell... does that count as a Mature Adult?

If everyone agrees on a lock, then a lock is not necessary. Feel free to chill out without moderator intervention.

.....So has anyone actually seen The Odd Life Of Timothy Green? It's premise reminds me a lot of Balloon Farm.

Okay, here's a Wikipedia link since we don't have a page on the movie: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Odd_Life_of_Timothy_Green

[up] 'Twas awful (the situation leading to the lock, not the movie—like I said, haven't seen it).

Edit: Well, Crap. A whole new page occurs since I began this and i'm unsure if I should leave it out or not. Blarrgh... sad

A semi-TL:DR approaches. General mood is such, if you want to skip it: Confused and unsure on everything, feeling like it might be time to move on.

I don't think anything has left me as confused and frustrated, I guess I would describe it, as this recent update.

I'll admit: I wasn't a huge Demo Reel fan, overall. I *loved* the concept, but the execution left plenty to be desired, THOUGH, it was not bad. It was starting to grow roots, and grow into something. It did improve plenty, much to the credit of the team involved, and some bits were always worth sitting through [Both cameramen, name-ably. Jim and Rob nailed it.], but the show didn't quite hit its stride, IMO.

None-the-less, I could see what it would become if it did, and I was excited for that.

On the other hand, while I had enjoyed many Nostalgia Critic episodes, in 2012, he was overall pretty stale to me. Watching him became more of an obligation than something enjoyable. I think the only episode I enjoyed of the entire year was the Scooby Doo one, and really it was the banter between 3 N Cs of different perspectives that made it work.

When he announced that he was ending the NC through To Boldly Flee [which was enjoyable but i'm not ever going to watch it again, honestly. One-hit-wonder.], I fully agreed with it. I pretty much felt that its time had come and gone, and it was time to move on to newer, better things.

When Demo Reel's first two episodes came around, I was pretty dismayed with the initial results, but I was hopeful. I wanted to see it grow, due to Doug's passion for the project. It wasn't all that enjoyable yet, but it could be. And yet, so many others were all "DEMO REEL IS SHIT, BRING BACK NC", which, to me, would be an even worse prospect. The severity of dumping your passion project to one you're burned out from gives me the shivers.

...and that's exactly what just happened here, as far as I can tell. Sure, Doug may be recharged and eager to tackle some new N Cs, but how long will it last? The schedule may be less soul-crushing and there's no time limit on what videos he can use, but, in the end, this is still pretty much going to be the same show he's done for years? The weariness of the format may sink in again. I'm upset with that...but that's not what fully bothers me.

What bothers me is all the whiners and mongs who threw up a hissyfit bitching and moaning about how the NC is dead and Doug's betrayed them and blah blah frigging blah were vindicated by this change. Ultimately, it seems, Doug's yield-able to peer pressure. There's no way Demo Reel's ending like this was planned; it's an ass-pull of pretty gargantuan proportions, though it did have a bit of wit behind it instead of being a thoughtless, shameless reset button, even if it still acts as one. I had spoken of my dislike of the initial Demo Reels at one point [not on TV Tropes, though.], but guys like I, who disliked demo reel but gave criticism to help improve it and was happy to see it grow and gradually get better, to let Doug continue his passion projects with full support, are left in the dust. To be told for months that NC's done and it's time for new pastures, and to go and defend that while not being initially pleased with the first results, only for Doug to backtrack us to the starting point again? Joy.

I have a hard time supporting Doug right now. Everything feels really turbulent and wobbly over at CA. He couldn't stick to keeping NC gone and he couldn't stick to his new passion project. Why should I believe he should stick to keeping NC around, either? The moment he has some other passion project he wants to do, I feel he's just going to abandon NC again. I don't see any stabilizing foundation here. He got burned out once and it wasn't even a year ago when he ended it. Just how long until the passion for these NC episodes goes away again? What are we left with?

This may be the point where I have to move on from him. I'll watch the new N Cs to give him a chance and see just how eager he truly is to do them, but if some other big change or burn-out starts seeping into it again, It'd be time to move on, as the relationship between author and fan has run its course.

I understand the change, NC's more profitable and Demo Reel just didn't cut it; but it's still shaken my faith in Doug in the first place with the inconsistent, unreliable message being sent. Mixed signals isn't a good thing to perceive, and my time can be better spent elsewhere.
