As the Plot Hole said. It put him in the mindset of the actors he's bashing. Sure, not all of them are as bad as the Donnie character, but they do have their troubles and faults.
Clearly to set him up as Dr. Insano's brother.
Remember! Hyperbole is an exaggeration made for comedic effect, and shouldn't be taken literally! What about the unresolved plot thread with his wife? What about the movie they were going to make? What about all the character development? We won't get any resolution on any of that, now... :c

I personally enjoyed Demo Reel less than the Nostalgia Critic, but I am understanding of the potential it may have had.
My feelings for the NC show outweigh the Demo Reel show, yet I am sympathetic to those who latched onto it.
I'm not one to backflip on an opinion unless I discover I didn't know what I was talking about on an epic fail level.
Yes I hope the actors hired for Demo Reel get more work. Yes I'm sad Doug Walker devoted a lot of time and money to a project that didn't work out.
Yet at the same time I'm really excited to see a Nostalgia Critic unchained from cut off dates. It's what I've always wanted to see. Also am I the only one who's sad that Douchey Mc Nitpick was chosen to fill the plot hole?
Fuck Ups videos will never be the same without him... he was one of my favourite minor characters in the TGWTG universe, right up there with Dr Insano in his prime and 80s Dan.
Hell Hasn't Earned My TearsThis is sort of what's been bothering me since he ruled out doing NC on a regular basis and started doing Demo Reel. Just do something like 2 demo reel episodes a month and one NC episode a month, still too much work maybe?
I just don't think it helped Demo Reel at all, by telling the group of people who were merely there to watch the Nostalgia Critic every week that they have no reason to visit the site anymore. Not exactly the best in online video marketing for your new start up series, honestly.
(Also, ITT, Overreaction central tonight, time to break out the popcorn)
-huggles Emeriin- There there
I actaully get the anger, cause it seems Doug has pulled "A Like you really would" move now and it cheapens the N Cs send off. And We're all suckers for falling for it.
Granted I do think, He just changed his mind and a few months of not doing it and rethinking his NC character removed the Blockage he was having.
But Hell you got people like Me, Emeriin and other Who supported Demon reel and I'll be the first to tell you the first episode seemed to be just Doug getting his angst out at TDKR and had clear editing issue. The Second epside was a massive improvement. This feels like a "THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT GUYS, BYYYYYYEEE" or that girl that sleeps with you and you wake up to find your wallet, keys and pants gone.
I'll give the Rebooted NC a chance but I wonder if doug will try to prioritize older stuff since the last thing we need is the NC stealing Chesters Thunder
-NC begins to systematicall off all other CA member until he is the one Reveiwer to reveiw them all!-

This is no time to bemoaning your fate. After all, "fate" is not the culprit here. That honor goes to your stubborn sense of self-worth.This feels like when a comic book character dies and is replaced by a better comic book character, but they die and the original come back.
Remember! Hyperbole is an exaggeration made for comedic effect, and shouldn't be taken literally! How would Rebooted Critic steal Chester's thunder? Chester reviews stuff THAT'S IN THEATERS. The Critic doesn't and won't.
This wouldn't have happened in Demo Reel was working out. It's as simple as that.
@Odie: Don't like. Don't watch. Very simple.
EDIT: I find it especially saddening that it seems that Doug will be doing this without the support of anyone here on TV Tropes.

I miss Douchey Mc Nitpick already. He's finding the faults in angels now.
To be fair I thought Brad Jone's cameo bit was funny. Especially since he does DVD-R Hell where he reviews failed pilots for TV series.
Hell Hasn't Earned My TearsYou understand the irony of saying that while talking about a critic right?
Remember! Hyperbole is an exaggeration made for comedic effect, and shouldn't be taken literally!I understand people loving the Critic and wanting him back, but he did NOT have to cancel Demo Reel to bring back the Critic! He could've implemented the solution of replacing the Critic with Douchey McNitpick, which was clever, WITHOUT Donnie turning out to be the Critic. I'm really sad that there won't be anymore Demo Reel, and that it was cancelled so UNNECESSARILY! :C
Going to watch this in a bit. Honestly I'm kind of mixed on this. I would hate to think that the only reason The Critic is coming out of retirement is to appease the Fan Dumb, because only bad things will result if Doug doesn't have anymore passion in the character.
Ah, I love the smell of melodrama in the evening!
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle. This is like when Kubo faked the fanbase out with Byakuya
I really want a Doug Explains vid cause its really needed, though a con Q and A will also explain it. Emeriin no "Kill Doug" plots... you may torture him by blaring the Doug theme on the sound system but no physical harm.
I'd hate to think that after all the improvement Demo Reel got, Fan discontent got it killed.

This is no time to bemoaning your fate. After all, "fate" is not the culprit here. That honor goes to your stubborn sense of self-worth.WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME!? YOU WANNA GO BITCH WE'LL GO! BRAD DOESN'T EVEN LIKE YOU, HE LOVES ME! ME!
Remember! Hyperbole is an exaggeration made for comedic effect, and shouldn't be taken literally!I think it's an odd choice, but he has my support.
what.

Not Three Laws compliant.@Odie: So you're going to waste your time with something you don't like?
@Odd: I even liked the Let's Play.
Maybe we should just have this topic permanently locked. It's been made apparent that this is going to be state of things from now on.
It was meant to play off Odd's melodrama mention but then someone else responded and it got way funnier.
You cannot seriously be saying these things about a critic.

Remember! Hyperbole is an exaggeration made for comedic effect, and shouldn't be taken literally!Should I just go ask a mod for at least a temporary lock then? Because, really, all that there is here from every side is aggression.
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.Constantly criticizing someone, even if they are a critic, isn't healthy. No, I'm serious.

Not Three Laws compliant.Woah, have I been gone for a while.
- 7:00 checks Doug Walker's facebook page, sees a new video
- Comes back after 30 minutes: "Huh, so DR is being cancelled in favor for the Nostalgia Critic. Well, as much as I was starting to enjoy Demo Reel, I can't say I'm particularly disappointed with the prospect of more NC. Plus, at least they found a way to work Donnie, the Plot Hole and tie it into TBF. As long as Rebecca and Rebecca and Tacoma can find a way to work into Channel Awesome, I'll be content. I wonder what the rest of Tvtropes thinks HOLY FREAKING CRAP- Tab Explosion
WOW. I don't think I've seen this many angry posts since Doug's Let's Play review. I guess even with Tvtropes I underestimated how many people would get so enraged about the status of an online 20 minute video segment. I can see his fans won't be letting him out of the Internet State Penetitiary anytime soon...
So yeah, basically I started at page 785 and read everything up until now. And I congratulate you all on making this such a lively discussion, normally I don't see this kind of writing anywhere other than You Tube Holocaust comments and the /a/ board.
At the risk of sounding like a gigantic internet troll, do you think its possible we're just getting a little too sensitive about it? I mean, yes, I think its disappointing that Doug Walker is cancelling DR and its easy to see him throwing out the rest of the cast in favor of profit margins but, at the same time, I don't imagine this decision was at all easy for him. Whether it was out of passion for more NC or trying to save CA's bank account, there's no denying that Demo Reel was bringing in the same amount of fans that NC was. As stated by Lindsey's review, Demo Reel probably was the John Carter for Doug and Rob, something they were extremely passionate about....and that's it. The sad truth is, passion does not equal a steady paycheck and at the end of the day if CA wasn't bringing in the same returns with the loss of the Critic, then I can applaud Doug Walker for taking one for the team and choosing the safer route.
Now, that said I sincerely hope that even with the return of the Nostalgia Critic, I sincerely hope that it's not the same as it was before. I know many people have discussed their desire to have him make both Demo Reel and Nostalgia Critic and honestly I don't see that working for several reasons: 1) Demo Reel is episodic while Nostalgia Critic, for the most part, is relatively stand alone. Trying to balance these elements every two weeks is going to get extremely jarring for the audience and for strenuous to his writing team. 2) I can gaurantee it will not please both fans. Fans of Nostalgia Critic will complain every time a new Demo Reel episode is produced, arguing that it's a waste for Doug to be producing this, and fans of Demo Reel, will get particularly annoyed if Doug makes more creative segments (ie like introducing newer review trilogies) rather than focusing on DR material.
HOWEVER, a worthy compromise I can see, is incorporating Tacoma and Rebecca into Nostalgia Critic. Before anyone starts arguing against me, saying that the Nostalgia Critic was a one man show and how this will never work, let me first say this. The Nostalgia Critic, in it's later renditions, was not just about reviewing movies. Sure it used it as a frame for the episode, but overall it was a comedy sketch show. Since Doug Walker stated that he will be producing an episode every two weeks now, I'm hoping this means that the episodes will be grander, more complex and longer, thusly finding a way to incorporate the two. Maybe they can serve as third reviewers, like Siskeland Ebert and Dot or maybe they'll become reviewers on their own channel. But overall, I think this is the best way to bring balance between both divisive groups of fans.
So in response to Rotten Robbie's post, overall I will be looking forward to his new review of Timothy Green. That was a f*cked up movie.
You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction.I haven't seen the video in question, but for perspective's sake, I will say this:
If he did this to bolster video income, and revenue was dropping considerably, he's probably justified in that. Like it or not, content creators generally tend to figure out what works best-that's not always the case, but it depends on how you can handle how your fanbase reacts to changes, how much free room you have, etc. Sure, Demo Reel probably didn't last that long, but if you're a content creator, and you put out five videos of something that isn't quite meshing with the audience, you should likely re-think your strategy-in Doug's case, he went back on his word, which is rather silly, but could be justified on some level.
"Hipsters: the most dangerous gang in the US." - Pacific MackerelNot me. I was entirely reasonable in my explanation of me missing Douchey Mc Nitpick.
It's not like there's anywhere else I can get this message across.
EDIT: This was meant for a few arrows above but it got displaced by the Opinion Tsunami.

Hell Hasn't Earned My TearsNO. THIS IS GOOD. IT IS CONVERSATION. WE ARE UPSET ABOUT THE ROUTE THIS SERIES IS TAKING AND WE ARE EXPRESSING IT IN A HEALTHY MANNER. THIS IS WHAT FORUMS ARE FOR. WE WILL SE THIS THROUGH, PERHAPS WE WILL BE WON OVER, PERHAPS, NOT, BUT WE WILL SEE IT THROUGH GODDAMMIT.

@stinger It is if the majority of your characters are now floating around in a Plot Hole. And what was the point of the Mom drama? Why did "Critic" need to go through that?
