That really is something to feel bad for him for, though. Like with his TBF commentary and his being convinced that he can't do any more big specials because he put everyone through hell.
I cut up one dozen new men and you will die somewhat, again and again.Well, he was enthusiastic about Demo Reel, but then when the first episode was released it wasn't received very well. Or, at least enough so that the following episodes were retooled into something different. If Doug's enthusiasm was for his initial idea, but then he had to change it into what Demo Reel is/was now, I can see the enthusiasm going away.
Oh boy, it's been a while since the thread has been this lively and angry. And me being worried things have been slow lately.
First of all, you people are overreacting, it's a little disappointing that he's backtracking after all the development and drama he went through to say goodbye to the character? Maybe, but a) He never said the character was gone forever, and b) If he has new ideas and a good schedule, why shouldn't he give it a try?

I can't have you close, so I become a ghost and I watch you, I watch you.@ Dream Huntress: I agree with you entirely.
@ others: Alright. Fine. Be that way. I honestly can't see how you can still call yourselves fans if you insist on acting just like the people who whined about the Critic ending in the first place. I, for one, will continue to respect Doug Walker.

But France was December. Lost In Translation got whole pages of positive comments, and that was the last ep out at that point.
I cut up one dozen new men and you will die somewhat, again and again.x6 Why should I feel bad for him for throwing his plans away for a couple of whiny fans? Especially since this leaves the Demo Reel actors in the dust. Like you said, Rachel sounded excited to do more and Lindsay and Lewis were set to be characters.

Because he's proven over and over that he's one of the nicest people there is? I'm angry at him yes, but that can't all be faked, c'mon.

I cut up one dozen new men and you will die somewhat, again and again.Seems Linkara disagrees with Demo Reel (apparently ending) but is supportive.

Jesu Otaku is saying some interesting / disagreeing stuff on Something Awful as well. Seems as though this is news to the other producers as well apparently. I am not sure what to make of that either.
So I can't think of anything right now... meh. Also, if the Critic is back, maybe there's a chance that Demo Reel can be back in some form or another, and who's to say the actors won't get involved in other Channel Awesome related projects? Seriously, give Doug a break and the benefit of the doubt.
I can't have you close, so I become a ghost and I watch you, I watch you.You know, if Doug and Rob had planned this from the beginning, then it would be the most epic troll ever.
I, too, feel disappointed and cheated at Demo Reel's abrupt end, but I respect Doug's decision. Though I still feel really bad :(

Bite my shiny metal ass.I'm sorry, but I just can't. I cannot respect someone that loses enthusiasm just because they weren't getting the results they wanted five episodes in.
I don't hate Doug. I love him a lot actually, he's always been nice, and he really does care. You can tell that from the first time you meet him. But this is a bone-headed decision on a long pile of bone-headed decisions and I can't respect him for it.
You do not give up just because things are hard, or just because things aren't going the way you want. That just makes you try harder until it bleeds.
Nostalgia Critic didn't do good in it's first five full episodes, and Doug didn't quit then.

I'm half-thinking they did. But I dunno, his enthusiasm for Demo Reel seemed real genuine.
Let's try to semi shift subject. how do you feel about NC doing Timothy green, and what newer films should he review?
@ unnoun: Okay, so people who produce failing tv shows, books or movies should just keep going even when it's not working out?
I'm sorry, but it's not that simple, there are times when you stick to your guns and go on, and there are times when you have to let go. There's no shame in admitting that things didn't work out.

I can't have you close, so I become a ghost and I watch you, I watch you.@ Broken Shell: Again, prove that he's leaving Malcolm and Rebecca in the dust.
You said it, Dream Huntress. Spot on. Also, The Critic was a runaway success and just a hobby at the time. He'd have to live off Demo Reel now that internet producing is his job.

Phelous has adjusted his Twitter avatar justly.

I think we have to remember that TGWTTG is many (but not all of) the producers main source of income and for a few of them they are just in the black. So if the site traffic was down it's might be less of a case of "Mwahaaha! MONIES!" than "I need to eat something other than Cup Noodles". Of course it didn't mean he needed to end Demo Reel in the manner he seems to have done (still can't get the video to load) even if he needed to bring the NC back so he can afford food. Though I doubt that would be the only reason for the NC's return I can't imagine it isn't a contributing factor somewhere.
So I can't think of anything right now... meh.Somebody in the comments section of Blip.tv was mentioning that the story and character development on Demo Reel was very rushed, and I agree with that, with everything that went down on the last episode it's kinda hard to imagine what they could have done with the character of Donnie. However there was a lot of other stuff that could have been explored, like spending more time with Rebecca and Tacoma, or finally meeting Donnie's wife.
I really feel the problem with Demo Reel was that it was not very well structured. But it would have been nice to see more of it.
I can't have you close, so I become a ghost and I watch you, I watch you.Okay I saw the video.
... I was expecting a world of shameful bowing to the whiney fans' needs. What I got was something much better than that. The thing is... for some reason, before I watched it, I was under the impression it was only 9 minutes long instead of a half hour, and then I had to glance at the timeline below and realized HOLY S*** THIS THING IS LONG! Aside from totally messing up my plans for the evening, it also answered any doubts I had about this decision. Every question I had was answered out loud in this video!
- Why did Doug bring the Critic back? Because he had new ideas, had a nice break, and as long as there are new movies becoming nostalgic in our minds, the Critic will be there to review them.
- Was the end of To Boldly Flee totally thrown out?? No, it was acknowledge as a character here and served as a sort of sequel to it!
- Did the other reviewers hate Doug for wasting the end?? NO, because the ending was writtten into this story, and the other reviewers even had cameos!
- What happens to Demo Reel? ........... it's implied that it's ending, which is a real shame considering that we made an entire page and directory here for the friggin show, he hired new actors, and he already told everyone that the Critic's show is no more!
I do have one nagging feeling that remains. ... I hope this isn't because Doug was swayed by the fan haters. It's a berserk button of mine whenever I see a creator make a huge change to their work "to please the annoying fans."
You can all moan as much as you want, but.... I'm content with this video, even if I am not completely agreeing with Doug's decision here. I would've loved to see Demo Reel evolve into a better, fleshed-out, full show so the fans would again have something to enjoy as much as they did with the Critic... but now it doesn't look like we will. Also, Doug said Demo Reel was something he and Rob wanted to do even before the NC, and just seeing them end it in the span of 4 months seems like a real let-down.

@Dream What we're saying/confused about is that he seemed eternally excited about it right up until the end and none of us saw it coming. Wouldn't you say it's pretty hard to accept that all that was apparently faked?
@shota Read JO's twitter in particular. She seems definitely annoyed. Last Angry Geek sounded pretty hurt too.

I cut up one dozen new men and you will die somewhat, again and again. That was apparently faked? That's a really big assumption.
I can't have you close, so I become a ghost and I watch you, I watch you. Some reviewers seem to hate him for it. Phelous seems legit pissed (other than him changing his avatar). Go to his twitter and have fun.

I don't know, not faked then, just we got all this excitement for MOAR and now it seems like there's nothing.
I cut up one dozen new men and you will die somewhat, again and again.
OK, in all seriousness and dumb mocking aside, this really does scream "please love me again!" all over it, and the fact that all that enthusiasm and plans for Demo Reel have vanished out of nowhere really convinces me that's the case.
