I think I like where this thread is going.

I like him too. I like his style and his energy, and he makes good critiques at times. Why don't you like him?

Because he feels so forced. Every "Critique" is the same thing you hear everyone else say about the film, he just parrots popular opinions. He doesn't offer a unique perspective on anything like a good critic should, he just goes through the movie and makes jokes. There's no real criticism in it.

I don't even think he does it intentionally, I think he just isn't a good reviewer.

His acting needs work. I only saw one review of his and his gimmick (a reviewer is cursed to watch bad movies) could work if he put more skill into the performances. ..then again, I DID only see one review and it was an early one, so maybe he improved? I dunno. If you love him, you are free to do that. He's just not my cup of tea.

C'mon man. I'm trying to have an actual conversation about a reviewer and their merits and faults. God forbid this thread have an actual conversation outside of "Hey doug's thing was kind of good."

Angry Joe meets Film Brain. What's not to love.

I admit he's not exactly the best there is, but I at least find him entertaining. That's all that really matters for the most part to me. Maybe his opinions veer a lot toward the mainstream, but I don't mind that too much, since he presents them well in my estimation at least. I do see where you're coming from though.

Granted, I haven't seen anything by him, but if the only mark against him is "his opinions skew mainstream", then I have no problem with him. I find that the TGWTG crew sometimes skews way anti-mainstream.

I compare bare bones critics with MikeJ. He does amazing things with a simple show, because he's witty and original and all around great.

But generally, I feel that critics who sit in a chair and talk at the monitor (and who will remain nameless) are tryhards following in the footsteps of giants. They're out of date.

He's just not good enough. There's dozens of reviewers that do the same thing but better, and each of them offers a unique perspective or look on a movie. A good reviewer doesn't just tell em about a movie, that make me see it from a different light. And BBB just doesn't do that.

Alright, new topic. The mods don't like these threads getting too negative.

So long as we're being constructive and civil I don't think it's a problem.

There's no reason to change the topic. We're having an actual discussion, I don't like BB, some folks do. It'd be nice to actually have a clash of opinions on this forum for once.
