Ya know, in retrospect Doug really shouldn't have mentioned how much he wants to do demo reel after ending nc I mean, rabid nc fans are probably 1 rating it in tons... I mean, I suppose demo reel isn't THAT good yet, but usually ratings are meaningless anyway when it comes to videos as people just put five stars or one stars depending on whether they liked it or not. Or anything between if they were meh
It's not his fault that the internet doesn't like excitement. And perhaps when Michaud finally redesigns the site, the voting system will be less easy to abuse.
If only Doug would turn evil for one day and gleefully announce that the Critic is finished forever, and Long Live Demo Reel.
I'm a skeptical squirrelSo I've decided to give Demo Reel another chance after the atrocity that was the first episode, and I watched the Lost in Translation one. Is it still a comedy series? There were some very serious storytelling moments, and it feels like he's improved over the godawfulness of the first one.
What's you guys opinion of the series?
Eh, its not uber great, but I don't really remember first NC episode being interesting either. Or the second one.
Either way, I don't think its as bad as some people are saying
I really love it, and they're definitely going for a more dramedy tone which works and seems to get more praise.
Yeah, I personally enjoy drama and non parody comedy parts better. Except stuff like Lost in translation which was relatively subtle parody of the movie, stuff like that is great.
I like it, though it clearly shows that they're still trying to find their way, something that really showed these last 2 episodes, but I really think it's improving and it can become really good. Though I admit I'm not a big fan of the mockumentary style they're going for, but so far it has worked well.
I can't have you close, so I become a ghost and I watch you, I watch you.I think the first two episodes were pretty bad, but after that the series had a huge leap in quality.
Groovy.I think it's ok. I actually preferred the second episode the most.
Why do I read comments? Am I that out of my mind?
I'm definitely seeing the improvement.
The Walkers said they're pretty much ignoring any comment that says "bring back NC", so at least those are out. And facebook's surprisingly more positive. (Not that there's not a lot of positivity amidst the dumb, just FB is usually known for stupidity.)

i've only seen 1 and 2, but so far, i like it. 1 is isn't as bad as everyone says it is (i hate the internet sometimes) and it's fun but with 2, it got better and now i'm really digging it
Fortunately, I managed to download the Demo Reel ep off You Tube before my connection was shot for 36 straight hours.
HO. LY. HELL.
I think it's safe to say that the Walkers' intentions with the parodies are to incorporate at least one into the plot of the episode, rather than have them constrained to the teams' actual filming. 3 weeks ago Lost in Translation was parodied in Doug's con experience, and this time The Blair Witch Project is unintentioally parodied with Donnie stuck in the woods. While this is an improvement from the first ep, I hope they continue at least a few minutes of the teams' remakes for the future.
Didn't a lot of audiences end up disappointed with Be Kind Rewind because it had less "sweded" movie parodies than they were led to believe?
Funny how it's working out like that for Demo Reel.
Groovy.Didn't people complain about too much parody in the pilot though? I had the impression that the "real life" parodying of the last two got much more love, not to mention more focus on the characters.

If something optimistic doesn't happen in Episode 5 soon, this could be a very depressing show.
Lots of hugs in the reunion scenes, who's with me?
Y'know, in real life people quote things all the time, and it has them rolling. I don't see why references other works is automatically plagerism in Doug's case.
I'm a skeptical squirrelThe internet has a really weird definition of plagiarism. Especially when a good chunk of it thinks "reviewers dibs" are a holy law that dare not be broken or else thy shall be slain by crucifixion.
I've seen plagiarism, and Doug hasn't done that.
Eh... I think the Ghostbusters scene in To Boldly Flee kinda skirted the line.
But Demo Reel most definitely is not plagiarism.
Groovy. The Ghostbusters scene was just the same scene as the movie but with jokes. If that's our criteria for "not plagiarism" I guess Seltzer and Friedberg get a free pass.
As for this week's Demo Reel, I liked it, but I can see where that dude who said that Doug may as well be playing Doug and had no character growth or fleshing out is coming from. The scenes were funny but it didn't feel like we were watching Donnie so much as a generic Doug sketch character. It was funny, I'll grant you, but still.
Something that really bugged me, though, is how they pointed out how they're using National Stereotypes in an episode that introduces a stereotypical Italian.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies....aw, man, we have to wait two weeks to find out what happens? Bummer.
Yeah, I really don't know why they're doing that. They're better than that. Although Rob's German guy is hilarious.

ophelia, you're breaking my heartI did not get that guy. Or maybe the really depressing bits about the mother made me biased, what do I know.
Hmm. It's weird, since Doug brought it up, I've been mentally listing every awesome thing that's happened this year. And there's a surprising amount. Life is pretty fucking awesome.
