It seems that the only CA-associated producers she invited were her friends from Chez Apocalypse anyway. (I mean, Linkara also wasn't there and he seems to be on good terms with Lindsay.)

I also feel like the Walkers are safe because they're staying in their lane. I feel like, if they ever tried to branch out again, address it, or do anything to try and be more than the... "critics" they are, they'd get shut down. No one is talking about it, but I doubt anyone has forgotten or will forget.

Just because you can ignore the stain doesn't mean its not there.

Obviously their reputation was stained. Even if they never talk about it it will always be there, but to some degree they did the smart thing which was not to do things worst. To be fair this was a no possible win situation. I really don't wish them bad, now Michaud on the other hand that's another thing. I hate how he didn't get what he deserves.

I think there's still alot of damage done, even if people aren't calling for Doug to commit Seppuku to regain his honor anymore.

They'll probably never get other creators to join them on the site again sans Brad and Larry (And I'm still amazed they haven't kicked him yet because he's clearly just there for joke purposes).

I hope they like doing NC until Doug's old and wrinkled because they're pretty much locked into this for good now. They'll have a very hard time branching out into anything else or getting any other type of employment using TGWTG as a reference, because it's basically public knowledge now they they mistreated their workers and covered for Jewwario. Thinks might be ok now, but this might come back to bite them in another 10 years.

Cons. They'll have potential trouble going there now, because there's always the chance someone will confront them on their problems, or cause some other big scene. And cons were a big part of promoting the site.

So yeah, I don't think it's quite over just yet, but it's probably calmed down for the moment.

I wouldn't count on another statement either, since we saw how well those last two "apologies" went.

It's not like they're going to lose any of their one fucking million fucking subscribers on their fucking You Tube channel.

So they got that shit going for them.

During April's disaster they only lost like several thousand of their subscribers. Once that happened, they knew they could survive all this scott free and only lose like a hundred dollars or so.

Great. Because people with millions of sub's get off with a slap on the wrist with a minority of people hating them are great. Very good. Mmmm hmmmm. Beautiful.

Most subs are dead accounts, people who subscribe and forget.

If a million subs guarenteed a million views on every video it would actually mean somthing.

Thing is Jon Tron was hurt by his controversy (thankfully) same as Spoony but at the end they don’t have even nearly the same amount of subscribers, in Spanish we have a saying: the one who kicks first kicks harder. The Walkers would need a major, major scandal to really really affect their numbers, and I mean Weinstein-level event. Which I don’t think anyone wants that.

Thing is, they do are in some way prisoners of their own self-made prison. They failed miserably in any attempt to do something not NC-related, Doug clearly wants to be a filmmaker as the anniversary “movies” shows and some of his videos are more movie parody than review. He’s trapped, he and Rob had to do the NC characters for eternity… that must be hell.

I discover him a few years ago and I have watch like 99% of his videos and I’ve seen all his “stages”. The downgrade in quality is obvious, as is obvious that he’s jaded and hates the character. His latest videos kind of return to the classic formula by the way (you know, less sketch and more review), still is not the same.

I remember one reviewer commenting on the scandal (tho I don’t remember who) saying that this Youtube video monetizing thing is always temporary, you can’t expect to make a living from it forever. There will be a point were Doug Walker is too old to make the NC character and not look ridiculous. These kind of stuffs should never be your sole source of income.

Dang, I've read a lot of the "Doug obviously hates NC now" opinions but man, I just don't see that. (Though he probably would like to branch out in other directions, yes.)

I'm not sure that Doug would ever be "too old" to play the NC. Why would there be an age limit? Are you implying you cannot do reviews on the internet while playing a character after 40?

The internet is still fiairly young, and so are its celebrities, generally. In another 20, 30 years, we will have a huge group of middle aged internet celebrities who may or may not be doing the same things on the internet.

We will have old geezers doing skits on You Tube reviewing movies and whatnot, and since you'll be an old geezer reading and posting on TV Tropes, you won't even particularly mind.

Well, I'd argue that there'll probably be a time where it's COMPLETELY worn out, not funny, and just doesn't "get" his base anymore and people will check out. I'm not trying to say being a crotchey old "kids these days don't get x" is inevitable but I'd argue it is in entertainment since, well, entertainment has an actual life time to it. And it will expire.

Maybe we should have a vote for "most likely You Tube reviewer to make it another decade", just for fun.

I'd say Linkara and Film Brain are right up there.

I'd say Brad Jones, Todd in the Shadows, and Rap Critic have a chance of that too. The video essay crowd (Kyle, Lindsay, Dan Olson, etc.) as well.

Seeing these names, I wonder if keeping your formula pretty much unchanged actually makes you more timeless…? You know, if it ain't broke don't fix it, and all that…

In that register, although he's never been in CA, I'd say that Sean Moore currently does the old-style of NC reviews better than modern NC in a way…

Really hope that it just crashes and burns. I don't care about what the NC does because people bitched about wanting the NC coming back. Same people complain about the quality of the newer NC episodes. Seriously, fuck those people. When the NC does crash and burn, it'll be like a tree falling and no one is there to hear it. Nobody will fucking care.

Doug should bite the bullet, move to California, and start over. Instead of being stubborn and thinking he can pass with his amateur production.

I agree, the best thing would be to burn this bridge and start over. Takes a lot of courage and determination to just up and do that, though.

Maybe make up a new name and get facial surgery. Burn everything to the ground. Make something that will hold up.
