Honestly, cliche'd as it sounds, there's two sides to every story. By nature people will slant a story best on their point-of-view, so that's why, it's never a good idea to "pick sides" or assume you know what someone's character is like.

Eh, Mike seems to be ass, but I never thought that Lupa was being victim here, I mean, she is way too willing to be bitter and "Look, they suck, you shouldn't support them, they are bad people" judging from the comments afterwards

I feel like telling an entertainer in your employ "look, we want you to pay us to put you in this massive publicity event, but if you don't want to participate than I guess you just won't get the publicity" is not, strictly speaking, ethical.

Certainly doing that to an entertainer in your employ is less ethical than said entertainer complaining about it.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

Blip is apparenly shutting down.

If true, I wonder what does that mean for the producers? Doug, Brad, Todd, and Lindsay should be fine, as they're affiliated with the League of Super Critics, so their content may be ported over to Maker.tv. However, what about other, not-YouTube-based producers? Will they move to Maker? Will their affiliation with the CA give them advantage in the application process? If not, there are always other ad-based platforms, like Dailymotion (though it apparently got stricter about copyright), or the ones you need to apply for, like Springboard (Spoony hosted his videos there for a while) or Screenwave (also used by Spoony for some time, Cinemassacre post their videos there, Linkara's switching to it soon).

I mean, it's been out of app stores since October, and the featured/popular/new lists don't update anymore, but the videos still play now and you can still watch new videos on there. What you said is what I'm wondering.

Got in touch with a blip user. He said they're not shutting down, they're just making a second Purge of less popular/successful artists. Blip shutting down MAY still happen because Maker.tv is slowly inching its way to dominance.

In other news, here's this year's annual Magfest group review: Nash, Film Brain, and Linkara review The Punisher (1989 version).

[up][up]Doing another purge? Well, that will certainly help increase views and revenue. Not!

I hope Brad and Kyle get better platforms as soon as possible.

Honestly Blip's been on the death spiral for a while now. Youtube's content id system is still pretty fucked, but it's not what it used to be, and at this point the pros outweigh the negatives. Aside from Channel Awesome, I don't know anyone who still uses Blip. If the contributors are smart, they'll get out now while there's a buffer of time, because that ship is held together with glue and twine.

Aren't Blip and Maker the same company?

Ironic- the reason the NC is on Blip is because of Youtube strikes he kept getting when starting out!

[up] Of course, now the NC episodes are posted on YouTube as well.

I'm kind of amazed Channel Awesome hasn't completely shifted to youtube as is. I mean the little guy still gets screwed on the content ID stuff but if you're part of a network or particularly big they cut you a lot of slack. I can't imagine it'd be that hard for them to get someone on board, and the audience pool of youtube is drastically larger than Blip, which I think is subsisting solely on TGWTG views.

[up]I thought Youtube's revenues for content creators / reviewers were lower than Blip's revenues (which were also low).

[up][up] Well, virtually all stuff made by Channel Awesome as a company (so basically Doug's stuff) since 2013 does get posted on YouTube, be it on the League of Super Critics channel, or on their own channel (they also posted there most of their pre-2013 non-copyrighted-material-using videos).

[up][up]I don't know much about Blip's process but I assume it's similar to youtube's and based on views. If that's the case then even if youtube pays less per view than Blip, you could still earn more if it had a substantially larger userbase, or one more driven for the content style. The blip userbase is probably more in line with Channel awesome's output but it's also substantially smaller than youtube's userbase, which is effectively the entire first world. I don't know anyone with internet access who doesn't use youtube daily, whereas someone of my more tech savvy pals have never even been to blip. I sincerely doubt there's a single person who uses blip and doesn't use youtube as well.

[up]That's true but It's always felt like a side thing, whereas I think as a business the entire site would benefit from simply shifting to youtube and cutting out blip, or at least flipping the order.

[up]Keep in mind that it's easier for Youtube to take down a video for copyright infringements or mere user reports. Because they have a bigger user base, they have more power and connections with the big companies/corporations.

yeah but in general if you're a large enough user those issue aren't really pertinent. Youtube takes care of their own and if a group as big as Channel Awesome said they wanted to move to youtube completely, they'd probably get some extra protection. I think the fact the super critics channel has existed for so long without issue is a testament to that.

There are plenty of partner networks on You Tube (e.g. Polaris, Machinima) that have struck deals with or gotten away with a lot on You Tube, really.
