It's cliche, overdone, and intrusive. In my expierience, 90% of all romantic plots become Romantic Plot Tumor s. Romance has been done and explored to death, and I think that romance could go on a 1000 year hiatus, after which time competent authors may be able to find something new to do with it.

The same could be said of all plot archetypes.

Yes, but romance isn't treated like a plot archetype. It's treated as basically half of all storytelling. It's more than a genre, more than a plot archetype, it's a huge fantasy industry. I just think that if we cut back on Romance, we could explore other things.

Hehe, my location says it all. trouble with Love? What trouble with Love. +Smooches on her boyo+

the thing with Romance, Ali, is that lots of people want it. it automatically widens your audience demographic by throwing a little UST into the show.

In Real Life... I don't know. Love is a subjective thing and everyone is entitled to their own view on it. I wish we could move on as a culture and realize that love is nothing new. Mostly, I just wish that romance did not take up so much of fantasy.

I don't think it's my place to be lecturing people about Real Life love. But fantasy is always in the realm of the imagination, and we all have different interpretations of it.

I actually find fantasy romance to be interesting, when applied imaginatively. Got a guy that can control bugs? Put on a firefly show! Use bees to collect a bouquet!

Or...I dunno...

As for romance in fiction, all I'm going to say is that you're tired of it because of lazy and unimaginative writers.

I don't generally care for romance as a main plot, but if it's done reasonably well as a subplot that's fine. I suppose it's hard to write well.

Well, honestly I was not really interested in anyone as a teen. Mostly cos of my angst phase and hating everyone in this crapsack world.

Then before I even met my GF online, I grew out of the angst and started to develop a softer side, apparently....

I don't really know if I should continue to post in this thread, since it would likely just end up with me wangsting about not being able to find a girlfriend. Which would be hypocritical, because I've already stated that I don't really want one. I mean, for me, the prospect of being in a relationship is like looking through the window of a store selling something I'd really like, a new video game for instance, but don't need and might even be better off without. I feel compelled to just pass it up, but there's this nagging feeling that I won't feel as fulfilled without it.

Everyone gets three wangst posts on a single topic. So knock yourself out.

In other news, noticed something. While both me and my girlfriend are ridiculously lovey-dovey, I'm more romantic where she's more passionate. Point being, love comes in a lot of different flavors.
