We Are Our Avatars (Discussion)

Hey there, aspiring new player here! I've read the FAQ and a couple of post in the OOC just to have an idea of what's going on (Also, holy cow this thing is a loooong runner xD), but nevertheless, is there any plot, sub-plot, conspiracies I should know of? Any unwritten rule like post lenght and all that sort of stuff?

Well, lets see here....

Plots have mostly been moved off to another RP we keep tighter control over the characters power in, though it would be nice to get something running here again.

-we normally denote actions IC like this- because we tried using * for a while but TVT's formatting ruins the posts.

Honestly though you can basically make your post however you want though as long as it is clear who you are playing, we have had people use prose in the past and nothing says new people cant use it....

We are currently on a Beach in Alola from the Pokemon world not doing much of any thing at the moment.....

And we really don't mind answering specific questions and would be glad to help. :)

I've been thinking of introducing an OC into here but A.) I don't have a name for him. And B.) I'll probably be waiting for some time to pass before introducing someone else. Also I'm using Akatsuki (Log Horizon) currently. Also hi.

So, who is Kaiezer, exactly? WAOA (most of the time) is focused around character interaction, so a specific emphasis should go towards what that character is like re:personality traits.

So, KGY, who exactly is Mimi? It's policy around here to ask newcomers to provide more detailed information about their first character, especially if they're from an obscure piece of media that people may not know about, or an original character.

Mimi is a minor antagonist from Super Paper Mario. most would probably know her for those transformation sequences she frequently undergoes (I'll spare the details)...

personality-wise, she's very childish, polite and energetic, even in the face of people she's not particularly fond of; however, if you push her over the edge—which is, unfortunately, very easy to do—she does a complete 180, revealing her selfish and condescending nature. she also appears to have very little consistency in terms of fashion sense... every time you see her, she's wearing a completely different outfit!

I have to admit, I'm a little worried about the whole "very easy to turn into an ass" aspect of her character, but Mimi seems fine beyond that.

Before you hop in, would you mind participating in a short test here? It's a good way to get your feet wet and feel out your style of play.

Nothing too major or time-consuming. Of course, it might take me forever and a half to respond but that's just because I'm lazy and forgetful, ask anyone else around here.

So. You might be wondering what all of that up there is about. Long story short; you inadvertently called a hit. While this isn't exactly a fight scene, in general we use "called hits" to refer to things like when Mimi snatched the cookies out of the burglar's hands. You're effectively doing something to somebody else's character and saying that it succeeded without giving them an opportunity to respond.

Occasionally called hits are allowed, but in general they're something that have to be agreed upon between two parties and it's usually done to facilitate something, and not purely just because. You get what I'm saying?

Yeah, that's pretty much it. Usually what you're supposed to do is describe the attempt and then let the target decide whether or not it works.

It's very honor-system based that way, but so long as everyone puts faith in it then it works.

I'm kinda... Unsure if I wanna join without changing my avatar outright, as Kira is one of those characters who the plot revolves around, which is problematic for a normal rp and especially problematic for an rp that has no structured plot. Maybe Dead Man's Questions Kira, but that might be too obscure? Maybe I can fit it in somehow.

Not to mention the Kira from Dead Man's Questions is significantly less homicidal, and I doubt any of the characters playing right now would take too kindly to a serial killer offing people wherever they end up going.

But obscurity isn't a big issue, just so long as you provide a description of Kira and who he is as a person for those who may not read/watch JoJo (or, in this case, read the ancillary short stories Araki makes to compliment it).

I'll see what I can do; I haven't actually read Dead Man's Questions, but I'll do some research and base my character off of that.

Or I could just change my profile pic to Shingo and work off of what I already know.

So, where's the sign up sheet?

Same deal with the inquiry about Kira there. I know about King of Fighters and Shingo there, but there's a strong chance not many other people here can spot him. We don't need a huge detailed worksheet for your character. Just their name, relevant backstory and powers, and most importantly their personality since the game is primarily interaction-based with a side of plot once in a while.

Also, you don't need to multi-post. You can use the edit button in case something pops into your head or you need to correct a misspelling.
