I just noticed something:

The trailers for this movie have no dialogue. And David Fincher had all of the actors have Swedish accents to keep with the setting (despite the fact that no one outside of Scandinavia knows what a Swedish accent really knows what it sounds like).

This means only one thing: terrible accents and hard-to-understand dialogue.

The new trailer is out. It feels like I've seen the entire movie. Mara's accent is awful but thankfully, the rest of the cast uses more neutral accents.

This will be a simple "pass" for me.

From seeing the new trailer before Paranormal Activity 3, I admit the film doesn't look as bad as before (though Mara is still all wrong for Lisabeth and the DI work makes it look like the film was run through a giant pile of mud).

The final run time is a whopping two hours and forty minutes (eight minutes longer than the original) and apparently, New York critics aren't really liking the film (the film was shut out at the New York Film Critics Circle awards, whose members got the first screening of the film).

With all of the quick cuts in the trailers, you would expect a much shorter film.

Just saw the 8 minute preview, and I must say it looks faithful to the first film, although a few things bother me. For one, you can tell that it's a hollywood production in that they've sensationalised Lisbeth's bisexuality, that they chose to squeeze in a bit of a rape scene and the constant references to sex in the Harriet case... really now, here we have a film about rape, murder, rapey murder and a psychologically damaged character... so let's focus on the sex? The accents are weird too. For one, they sound like swedes trying to communicate in english and doing it badly, you're just waiting for them to give up, and for nother, Craig doesn't even bother with it so the whole thing gets spotty.

That said, I've been angry with these remakes from the start. It just seems like Hollywood is stealing the revenues from the original, especially since Americans (and everyone else for that matter) either won't know of the original or take the new version rather than read subtitles.

Sounds like Fincher has indeed bitten more off than he can chew.

I'm kinda intrigued, honestly. Might check it out if I get a few free funds.

Buscemi, you really do enjoy hating things just for the sake of doing so, don't you? I've got your number now.

The Social Network was awesome, and you know what? I even fucking liked The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, even though it is vastly different from anything else Fincher has made. I feel he's the kind of person who makes movies because he wants to make them, and I don't think he was somehow "selling out" with that story – as weird as it sounds, I think it might actually be something he legit wanted to make.

And as for complaints about The Social Network in that regard, I don't get those. It seems pretty goddamned Fincheresque to me.

Benjamin Button was just Forrest Gump with better visual effects and a weaker story (the writers were even same). It seems like the type of film that Ron Howard would make in his sleep but since Howard's schedule was full and Fincher badly needed a hit, he got the job.

And after the Oscar raves, Fincher simply got greedy and is now replacing his visceral thrillers with Academy-pleasing literary adaptations (yes, Fight Club and Zodiac were adaptations but the Academy usually isn't big on violent crime stories). The guy wants his hardware.

I believe I said that the trailer before Paranormal Activity 3 (a two-minute trailer created from the four-minute trailer while adding new footage) didn't make the film look as bad as the other trailers. I may catch it during Christmas break when I have three hours to spare. But I can't see it measuring up with the original.

Original movies, or original books? I've read neither. I think my mom has read 'em all and seen the movies too, though.

Call it pedantry, but I don't really think that deserves the title of "the original".

Not to mention that this isn't an original work as much as it is a very faithful remake. It even looks like they've recycled some sets and props. As for disputes over what can be called original, that seems a bit too detached when you consider the money issue.

Today when I went to see Arthur Christmas, the theatre had the teaser poster (the infamous "nude Lisabeth poster" that Fincher had approved) displayed. Lisabeth's nipple was covered with a "This Film Is Not Yet Rated" sticker (it's actually R, but that's beside the point). I found it rather funny, especially since the hall with the poster was next to an auditorium showing The Muppets.

It's funny since the theatre is in a rather conservative part of town. And it was canned food drive day (bring five cans and see a movie for free, bring 15 and get a free pass also), which means a lot of kids would be there. The employees obviously don't give a fuck about uppity Jesus freaks and crazy soccer moms who hate everything.

A good attitude to have, the world would be a better place if no fucks were given to Jesus freaks and soccer moms. In my expert opinion, anyway.
