The reason all the protagonists from the Fire Emblem games are not being included is because if they did that, everyone would be using a sword.
...Except the large amounts of characters who don't specialize in swords. And even then, the Musou series is one of the ones that can actually get away with the "everyone has the same weapon" excuse because they tend to be good at making the sword wielders feel different from one another. Plus the emphasis on the weapon triangle in FEW kind of means you'd have to notice that the older games had more than sword users in them, unless they were explicitly planning on just including the main heroes/lords from each game.

...As someone who only started to really pay attention to this series with Fates and Mirage Sessions and Heroes, I'm not too bothered by the limitation of the games used (kind of expected it, to be honest), but the reasoning just seems bizarre. That excuse is so bad that I almost want to believe it's some sort of mistranslation by translators or some faux pas caused by the original writer of that article.

Hopefully more characters are added as DLC, if not in a sequel.

As for the two blonde OCs, they remind me of the two leads from the first Dragon Quest Heroes game, and seem equally interchangeable (literally, aside from personalities, the only difference between them was their elemental affinity). I'm surprised they didn't just make them into a single customizable Avatar-type character (ala Samurai Warriors Chronicles) instead.

The swords thing is an obvious excuse to stick to the most popular games in Japan, because otherwise why would they make both of their new lords sword users? Speaking of, those lords look bad in their art but fine in the screenshots, so I'll wait to see them in motion to form an opinion on their designs.

On the other hand, based on their comments it seems the roster will be bigger than I expected, which is nice. It would have sucked if Tharja was the only magic user, for example.

I hope if they're making a big roster that it means we'll see more characters from past games, as dlc like Hyrule Warriors, otherwise I'm not interested.

It's Koei-Tecmo. Tons of DLC (both costumes and full-out new characters) is guaranteed. Ike, Lyn, and Roy are guaranteed DLC if they aren't in the base game for example.

Maybe they got wind of all those people whining about how there were too many Fire Emblem characters in Super Smash Bros. and how "all the Fire Emblem characters are just boring sword users!" #BlameSuperSmashBrosIdiots.

Joking aside, I'm fine with this announcement since the 3DS games are my favorites games in the series. I do hope that more characters from different games get announced, however. I want to be able to play as Roy.

[up][up][up][up][up] They actually can't go overboard with the swords because the weapon triangle is actually in the game! Having a Lance user have an advantage over half the playable cast would be... stagnation.

Honestly, a core cast restricted by which games they're allowed to pull from can only mean good things for this game.

I'm not particularly bothered by the cast restriction since I love the Fates characters and haven't played many other Fire Emblem games.

More Archanea characters is good in my book. Not that I'm getting the game since I don't a New 3DS/Switch.

I already said my two/three people I want in, but I would also want to see Sheena. For reasons, one being just to potentially have more than one armoured character.

I'm fine with this.

I'm sure other games will get in as DLC, or at worst saved for the inevitable rerelease. I wouldn't be surprised if Ike and Lyn show up in the base roster despite that stipulation, either.

The lack of Echoes content is unsurprising, given the development period. It sounds like even Fates is kinda squeezed in there.

I would also remind people that Hyrule Warriors only had three game reps at launch as well and now it has eight.

Doesn't mean it won't get DLC, though.

Given the success that Hyrule Warriors and its DLC enjoyed, it probably won't just be three characters like the Wii U version's base DLC, either.

I'm more familiar with Fates so I'm fine with the choices, I'm just bugged by the reason stated. Plus the chances of other games' characters showing up as DLC are pretty high anyway. And I expect the FE amiibo to be utilized too (though not to the point of expecting characters to be unlocked with the amiibo).

I'm more partial to the Awakening cast (except Tharja) so I'm glad to hear they're gonna be pretty prominent.

But I could already guess that with Chrom being the first thing shown.

They might have set genders in the story (though that's a big might) but there's absolutely no reason why the opposite gender can't be an alt costume for regular gameplay.
