There isn't an Axe/Bow combo in Fates, I don't think. Fates has all sorts of weird combos, but this classic one was excised.
Archetype talk again. Maybe it's just me but can Hilda count as both Dark Lady and Michalis? In addition of being a feared Bad Boss amongst her peers, she seems to be driven with self-serving ambition like other Michalis characters. And we know how much intentionally despicable she is. Can someone get two archetypes?
While I liked the Warrior class, I also liked the Oni Chieftain class as well, so I wasn't too bothered by the absence of the Warrior class. I do kind of find it funny that Fates introduced two magic-slinging axe-using classes, one for Hoshido and one for Nohr.
I appreciate the different flavor each of 'em brings, though- Warriors, Berserkers and Chieftains all feel different to me.

I sure said that! Then there's Blacksmith, which seems to be the class nobody cares about.
I think it's a neat class, it's just that Fates like pushing particular promotions for each unit at you.
I sure said that!Even discounting promotions, Oni Savage has that weird-ass problem of being a tree completely isolated from everything else and having exactly one person who is the class by default.
FE: Genealogy Story Run 7PM PT Sun, Mon, Fri; Expert Unicorn Overlord 7PM PT Wed, Thurs: http://www.twitch.tv/kuroitsubasatenshiIs it a problem? I mean, I didn't have any problems with Blazing Sword having Canas as the only playable Shaman, so it could just be me.
When you have branching promotions, yes. Canas just goes straight to Sorcerer. Oni Savage has a single user with two choices, so that increases the odds of either the class or one of its promotions not getting used by people.
FE: Genealogy Story Run 7PM PT Sun, Mon, Fri; Expert Unicorn Overlord 7PM PT Wed, Thurs: http://www.twitch.tv/kuroitsubasatenshiI hear that Warrior has gotten worse and worse as the series progresses. Is it true? Like SD/NM are mediocre because they have a low Speed cap and Berserker exists. No surprise that it was dropped in Fates and have Berserker be the Fighter's promotion and the Oni Savage having Magic-using Oni Chieftain and Sword-using Blacksmith. Plus, Blacksmith is kind of a mediocre Hero with Lancebreaker being the only thing worth using the class.
I have an idea of a promotion system, bringing back the separate Promotion items like Knight Crest and Guiding Ring, but every class promote to different classes based on the promotion item like Mage becoming Mage Knight from Knight Crests or a Mercenary becoming Bow Knight with Orion's Bolt.

Fire Emblem Heroes Code: 4547311645 Fate/Grand Order Code: 188037115Mm...still not really seeing it as a problem. I don't mind having just one Oni Chieftain by the endgame; my last playthrough ended up having quite a bit of Oni Chieftains: Rinkah, Silas, Sophie, and Hayato all ended up being Oni Chieftains, even if Rinkah was the only Oni Chieftain on my team by the endgame. But hey, that's just me.
Oni Chieftain is the class that makes more sense for Rinkah to take, since it's a flat out upgrade to her initial class.
But Blacksmith looks better to me because it doesn't try to go for two different damage types, and it fits her fire based cut ins.
I will still complain about the lack of a male Oni Savage unit that Corrin can support with. It prevents M!Corrin from getting all classes, unless he marries Rinkah or Midori, and picks the alternate for a base class. And even then, he'll miss out on one of the base class skills (aptitude & underdog isn't a huge loss, though)
If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television.Mario: Warrior is a god class in Awakening because it's one of the ones that's optimal for taking on Lunatic+.
FE: Genealogy Story Run 7PM PT Sun, Mon, Fri; Expert Unicorn Overlord 7PM PT Wed, Thurs: http://www.twitch.tv/kuroitsubasatenshiWarrior is an amazing class. Half of why I split my tree back into Barbarian and Fighter was just so I could have Warrior as promotion for Fighter.
And Blacksmith is neat, but suffers from Oni Savage's poor distribution; the only Oni Savage in the entire game is Rinkah, and if she gets used (which is a big presumption in itself) she prefers Chieftain.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Rinkah's the only axe user you get before into promotions or sideclassing, and she's kind of a tank (making up for lack of wary fighter by being really speedy, too).
Why wouldn't you use her?
If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television.Happy birthday, Siegson.
You probably have a Sunrise Katana for me, but I'm too lazy to switch out my Echoes cartridge.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Blacksmith seems like an inferior Hero knockoff (similar weapon type, movement type, and stat spread but overall worse and lacking any particular flair), and should have been a warrior equivalent, since Oni Savage is a fighter equivalent. That way you get a ranged option with each choice, retain an older class, and even if the weapon types are redundant triangle wise, that didn't stop Dark Knight or Nohr Noble.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/lb_i.php?lb_id=13239183440B34964700 Alfric's Fire Emblem Liveblog Encyclopedia!Hero gets axebreaker, Blacksmith gets lancebreaker.
I'm pretty sure Blacksmith is the only Hoshidan class to get a -breaker skill, whereas Berserker is the only Nohrian class to get a -faire skill.
If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television.Which is a particular shame, since Blacksmith is really neat in terms of flavor.
I sure said that!Blacksmith also focuses on Axes over Swords compared to Hero.
Fantastic Supreme Überkaiser Emperor Folt of The Infinity and Beyond" ... "The First"!I do kinda wish Fates contextually acknowledged what a unit promoted from- Like, if Hayato becomes a Basara then he would get a B cap in Lances and an A cap in Tomes.
I sure said that!So what you're saying just like how units have personalised stat caps, they could also have personalised weapon skill caps? Though those should probably not ever exceed more than a +1 rank that comes with a -1 rank to compensate.
That could make things really interesting, especially when considering optimal classes for units.
Of course, it could create a sitation for certain units not being able to obtain S-Rank weapons in classes meant to be able to use them, and being able to nab then in classes that shouldn't, but that latter one would especially make people happy.
I mostly just meant that I'd like the game kept track of the class promoted from as well as the class promoted to. Like, if, in this hypothetical scenario, Hayato got access to Spear Fighter and promoted to Basara from that, he'd have the A Lances B Tomes weapon rank caps instead. Or maybe just get A in both?
I sure said that!Radiant Dawn sort of did it - Bow Paladins and Lance Paladins both promoted to Silver Knights and got an S rank cap in their existing weapon type and a much lower cap in the new one (same with Axe and Sword Paladins to Gold Knights and similar with the various Sages to Archmages).
Well, of course they did.
They don't have room for a third axe-focused class. There's nothing meaningful left for a third axe base class & warrior.
Oni Chieftain is the weird Axe+Ranged weapon combo that uses counter, Berserker trades a crit/aim tradeoff for rally strength. What's left for Warrior to do?
If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television.
