That also explains the finite use limit, your not actualy stabing the enemy.

Your buying them off with a peice of your weapon.

I'd always imagined that the "silver" weapons weren't actually made of silver; it's just an artifact of whatever magic-assisted forging process is involved. (Who needs Bessemer blast furnaces and electric arc welding when you've got access to Elfire and Arcthunder?)

Blast furnaces don't disappear into the ether after twenty to forty uses. Also, they can be used by people who aren't mages.

I figured that the silver referred to more cosmetic aspects of the weapon, such as the hilt or haft having silver decorations and maybe a dense, silver pommel that gives better balance.

Basically, you're buying not just a very sharp weapon, but also an intricately detailed one.

Maybe the enemy just sees your impressive, expensive weapon and loses the will to defend themselves in awe? And that's why they do more damage?

My explanation: They do more damage because they're better crafted.

As noted, the silver indicates the intricate design of the weapon. Someone spent time perfecting the Silver Sword. A lot of love and care went into making this not only a beautiful weapon, but also a practical one. Several hours were spent honing and detailing it to be the weapon of a expert, one you can look at and immediately know that this person is a true master of the blade with love and dedication for his craft.

An Iron Sword, meanwhile, is mass-produced from whatever crap metal the forge has lying around.

It's like, two blacksmiths working the same amount of time, one produces a single Silver Sword for the general of the army, the other produces fifteen Iron Swords for the grunts to die while holding.

Eh, Silver describing the appearance more than the material makes a lot of sense. It's not as if you're hitting people with your Bravery for the next level of weapon.

IIRC, the Japanese version of "Brave X" is "Hero X", isn't it? So "Brave", in this case is probably referencing the type of warrior rather than the adjective.

I finally started playing the original Mystery of the Emblem a few days ago, on Book 1.

I'm still trying to get used to the "Wait" command being at the top of the unit menu instead of being at the bottom like every other game. This screwed me over a couple of times when selecting a Staff user, as I accidentally select "Wait" instead of "Staff" to heal my units due to the "Staff" command being right under the "Wait" command. Otherwise I'm really enjoying this game. I haven't lost any units yet, either.

Currently on Chapter 8 - Princess Minerva

My current team:

  • Marth (Lv. 8 Lord)
  • Caeda (Lv. 8 Pegasus Knight)
  • Ogma (Lv. 9 Mercenary)
  • Navarre (Lv. 9 Mercenary)
  • Julian (Lv. 8 Thief)
  • Lena (Lv. 8 Cleric)
  • Hardin (Lv. 9 Cavalier)
  • Merric (Lv. 9 Mage)
  • Wendell (Lv. 2 Bishop)
  • Draug (Lv. 8 Knight)
  • Bantu (Lv. 2 Manakete)
  • Wolf (Lv. 5 Horsemen)
  • Sedgar (Lv. 2 Horsemen)

So, I've begun playing Thracia 776 (fittingly, partway through the second gen of my most recent Genealogy playthrough). It's quite enjoyable, and the various mechanics it had have so far proven interesting. I like being able to capture people and take their stuff, even if I do end up with heavily clogged inventories since I'm a packrat who captures lots of people. Fatigue hasn't hit me yet since I'm only at 4x and no one has quite reached the point yet, but it's bound to happen, and Makua seems to be the first victim. I've burned all stat buffs on Leif to make him more reliable since he'll always be there. The fact that con has a growth rate pleases me. We'll see how things go from here, since the difficulty has been solid but nothing too overwhelming as of yet.

I heard that the final boss is the most pathetic of the series, slightly more powerful than the mooks in the final stage, of which there are more than a dozen.

I would actually play this game if it didn't have the irritating-sounding Fatigue mechanic. And had a decent fan-translation.

776 looooooves it some Est units. If a unit is underleveled, odds are good that they have some amazing growths.

Sara in particular is fucking ridiculous.

RE Aflac: Thats a pretty good team for now. Bantu actually has a good amount of utility in the original games.

Re Asterism: Though that doesn't apply to all units such as Eda.

Eda's definitely in the minority when you measure her up to Sara, Homer or Marita.

Marita has Luna, and gets Astra, so she's obviously great. Unless made bad in purpose like Shanam(a reference to Samuto), Myrmidons fare very well in Thracia 776. Homer has Elite, so obvious reason to use him. Both have high pursuit critical, so thats another point in their favor.

Come to think of it, Robert has above average growths, though not alot of people choose to use him due to being bow locked, 1 pursuit critical, and having no skills.

So. I am playing FE 8. And through skirmish/Valni tower abusing I have five promoted units, which are Ross (Berserker), Garcia (Warrior), Lute (Sage), Tana (Falcoknight) and Cormag (Wyvern Lord).

Also, I have a lot of A-Supports. And I think I broke the game balance. I love FE 8. [Insert evil laughter here]

Oh hey, Shadow Dragon DS remake is on EU Virtual Console.

I should get it. I've been meaning to get into the series more than just playing part-way through a friends copy of Sacred Stones and then not being able to finish it...

So I'm faced with a dilemma. I'm at chapter 7, and I'm attempting to snag the loot from the brigands and more easily recruit Shiva, but it appears that every time I try I end up getting bottlenecked and killed by the cavalry reinforcements. Is there any reasonable means of going through the mountain path, or am I simply required to go down the center and confront Shiva's gang to have any hope of winning? I was trying to avoid that to make it easier for Safy to reach him, but it seems like that isn't the case, since she would have trouble reaching him if he's rushing up the middle.

I dunno which game you're talking about. If it is Fates, it hasn't even come out yet here! So yeah.

Actually, where I live Fire Emblem games are all but easy to find. Except Awakening, but I lack a 3DS.

The post before the last states it to be Thracia. I can't help, since I have practically no experience with the games prior to 6. Really need to find time to rectify that at some point.

Have finished Hector Mode in the "first" Fire Emblem - first here having the definition of seventh, I think, but it was released stateside with no subtitle or number.

I like that you can view all the Support Conversations you've had in the menu. Is there any way to unlock something like that for Endings?

Not that I'm aware of. Serene's Forest (serenesforest.net) has the full game script if you want to, though.
