This game is turning out to be an even bigger joke than I thought it would. Bravo IS, you're making a game that might be even worse than Awakening. I didn't think it was possible.
Yeah, I'm not buying this.
Oh well, at least IGA is making a Castlevania Spiritual Successor...
I'm a little worried myself.
True, I've still only played Casual mode so far, but there is making things too easy.
I need to be clear: is the infinite weapon thing just for Phoenix mode, or for all modes?
One Strip! One Strip! All modes, all difficulties, all versions.
I don't think it was specified as Phoenix Mode-only, so it's likely for all modes.
FE: New Mystery Fresh Cart Lunatic 7PM PT Sun, Mon, Fri; Expert Unicorn Overlord 7PM PT Wed, Thurs: http://www.twitch.tv/kuroitsubasatenshiI'm 'meh' to Phoenix Mode. I'm not going to use it, but I'm not going to fault anyone who does nor write the entire franchise off as ruined because of it. It's not like it's a mandatory part of the game and it doesn't hurt anyone who doesn't want to play in that mode. If you don't want to go super-easy mode, just don't go super-easy mode. Play it on Classic and don't mind the people who play it on Phoenix.
Phoenix Mode seems kind of dumb. I get wanting accessibility, and I fully support Casual mode even if I'll never use it, but this goes a bit too far. At least I can easily ignore it.
Weapon durability I have no opinion on as of this time. It's something the series has done before in Gaiden and sort of in Genealogy. The game does need to be balanced around this though. It does mean we probably won't be buying weapons, which could be interesting. If there are only 2 Rescue Staves it's much harder to Rescure spam. 2 of each Silver, 1 Killer, 1 Brave, etc. You may not be able to just give all your ponies and flying ponies Javelins, which would be pretty big. Or they could just not care and you can give everyone unlimited Killers by mid-game. I think they'll balance it out (at least on the Nohr side), but it's something we can't determine until it comes out.
Your preferences are not everyone else's preferences.Don't really care about Phoenix Mode. I think Casual really was enough as far as easier modes go, but it's not like I have to use Phoenix Mode anyway so it doesn't affect me.
No weapon durability strikes me as odd. Breaking weapons seems like an iconic feature of Fire Emblem, so it's a bit odd to remove I think. I'd have at least made that exclusive to Phoenix Mode. At least now I can use regalia though.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I'm kind of tired of this argument. It holds water against those who say people have to play a game their way, but I think it's oversimplified as a general argument. Some of us are aspiring game developers and like to take an academic approach. As a player, yes, it hardly affects me (although, if Lunatic+ returns, I may find some use of the mode for routing another challenge run). As someone who likes to see how games come together and tick, I think it's overkill. Granted, I don't know how much my and IS's ideals align, but I feel that it's my job, if I'm making something, for one difficulty to teach the player how to handle the next step up (whether or not they take the lesson to heart is something that I can't control; the important thing is that the opportunity is there). That's why I presented a hypothetical change.
FE: New Mystery Fresh Cart Lunatic 7PM PT Sun, Mon, Fri; Expert Unicorn Overlord 7PM PT Wed, Thurs: http://www.twitch.tv/kuroitsubasatenshiIt wasn't so much meant to be an argument, more of a suggestion. You know, "If something optional bothers you, remember it's optional and play the mode you want to play."
I myself do think Phoenix Mode is somewhat excessive, but since I'm not going to play it, I don't really feel too strongly about it. I don't like it, I don't hate it. It's just there for anyone who wants it. I won't let it ruin my day.
On another topic, anyone seen this yet? From what I can read, Ryouma, Hinoka, Takumi, and Sakura are pretty much confirmed to be siblings, with the first two being older than Kamui. Sakura's class is listed as 'Miko.'
Someone translated (to the best of their abilities) the profiles from this week's scans of the 4 Nohr and Hoshido characters. I'm liking Camilla more and more.

Hyped for Hyperdimension Neptunia V 2I guess what I'm getting at is, hey, I gotta see how the game plays before I decide on if this is good or not.
I sure said that!I'm what one might call a casual gamer, and as someone who's terrified of unit losss and weapons breaking, this is probably the first time I'll be able to play a Fire Emblem game without having a panic attack on every map.
Insert something witty that makes me better than all of you, here.awakening already had a mode without permadeath tho?
and weapon breakage is a super minor thing in most of the games. you usually have more than enough money to buy more. its only the rarer weapons where it'll seriously be a problem, but you wont be using those as much anyway.

I suffer a paranoia most supreme, okay?
Insert something witty that makes me better than all of you, here.Has any other game done away with weapon durability? This is the first detail that's worried me about If.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.I believe Gaiden didn't have durability. Genealogy had durability, but weapons had 50 uses and could be repaired, so it was basically just a money sink. The non-existence of durability by itself doesn't mean much as to whether it will still need strategy or not.
Your preferences are not everyone else's preferences.Gaiden didn't have durablity but it also didn't have much in the way of weapons either and you could only ever equip one item. And everything from shields to rings to weapons were classidifed as items too.
Hrm. They just casually reveal in the profiles that Kamui was kidnapped. My theory was that it was a mutual agreement, abit one probably made by Hoshido's prior ruler. Like, I think it's a thing that a ruler would basically let another ruler adopt one of their kids as a way to improve relations. Since Kamui isn't the eldest child anyway (and thus, wouldn't be first in line for the throne), letting them be adopted by Nohr to ease tensions would make sense?
Having it be explicitly a kidnapping is kinda...well, way to set Nohr as the "bad guy" faction right off the bat.
Anywho, most of the cast sounds fun. Marx and Ryouma both seem kinda boring "stern warrior who is loyal to their kingdom", but they are likely the Camus character for the other route, so hey. The little sisters are...little sisters, though points for giving them contrasting personalities (shy versus outgoing and all). Also, what's a Rod Knight?
Camilla doting over Kamui and being willing to kill for them, hrm. Wonder how that will translate to the Hoshido route? Also, what's a Revenant Knight?
...Also, Pegasus Warrior?
Phoenix Mode? Erm...don't see the point. Casual mode seems accessible enough? Maybe if there is a "Phoenix Plus" mode where the enemy gets the same benefits. Won't that be fun?
No weapon uses, thank you. I always fear that I'll run out of weapons and money to buy more with, though I admit, it probably has to be heavily balanced to not be broken as snot.
Don't PM me. We don't like being PMed.heirs being kidnapped and raised among the enemy as hostages isnt that unusual in japan. it happened all the time in the sengoku era. its not really a villainous act. its a callous, but logical act as it restricts the province the hostage belongs to from making a move against you under most circumstances, lest something happen to the heir. im not too clear on how those hostages were treated though. i assume it changes from kidnapper to kidnapper.
its the same kinda thing with political marriages. they binded two provinces, but the bride had to move to the groom's province, and is effectively seen as a political prisoner in a lot of cases.

This is not confirmed in any way, but apparently, Aqua (the dancer girl) is a Princess of Nohr who was kidnapped by Hoshido.
Also, I will try Phoenix Mode at least once because watching units die, then suddently come back can lend itself to all kinds of funny shit!

Fantastic Supreme Überkaiser Emperor Folt of The Infinity and Beyond" ... "The First"!Ah, so it's basically a cultural thing. To Japanese audiences, they probably would draw the parallels to the older practice (especially with Hoshido's feudal Japan leanings), while Western audiences will likely see it in a more negative light.
But hrm, going by that line of thought: why would warlike Nohr need to take a hostage to prevent the peaceful Hoshido from attacking them? Hmm...
Maybe I'm just overthinking things.
Don't PM me. We don't like being PMed.Not So Different is obviously going to be a major theme
not really a surprise when both sides seems to have an equivelent of each character on the otherside.
subtle, ye aint.

Yeah. Both sides seem to have clear parallels from the get go, and, again this might be me overthinking, but I like how even this early we are getting hints that Hoshido isn't as just and virtuous as first presented, and in turn Nohr isn't as grim and evil as first presented.
Regardless, both sets of siblings seem likeable and endearing, so having to kill them is going to be...fun.
Don't PM me. We don't like being PMed.-phoenix mode
-weapons durability no longer an issue

Enjoyment and Excitement!
Shoulda called it "Zombie Mode", so that Kamui could be Dark Lord of the Risen. I would totally play an evil Lord character.
Seriously, though, Phoenix Mode seems a bit excessive, to the point where, I think it jeopardizes having the player learning from mistakes (which is bad, from a designer's perspective). I'd tone it down to a res limit of one unit per turn (selected by the player from a list, rather than any kind of queue system). This adds a tactical decision, while still easing up significantly on the difficulty.
No weapon durability is a little weird. 1~2 range weapons definitely risk becoming even more overpowered than before. If forging is still a thing, it could easily become unbalanced, as well.
