That's...pretty good motivation, really. It'll tick people off enough to make them try their hardest.
Is that the case? I like playing traditional fighters like Street Fight 2, Turbo, Aplha, 4, etc. I also play Marvel vs Capcom, and some iterations but never got that into it. Even so, I don't find Ia MP to be as fun, since the controls are clunky, which SWR and Hisoutensoku fixes. Thus, I find the latter more enjoyable.
Everything is relative.

Who seem to either miss or ignore the fact that the fight was created with little to no research.
AND he did get to beat his opponent up with his own severed arm. That kind of thing automatically gives you some kind of bonus points ^^

I get the feeling they just liked her combo animations from the fighting games.
Also, immediately before watching that I was listening to the same song from DDS that they used as background music for the fight, so I had to doublecheck that I didn't leave it running in the background. That was a strange coincidence.
I haven't watched a lot of these, but I get the impression that they tend to favor underdogs because it simply makes for a more interesting fight. Like that time Kirby won against Majin Buu in spite of the latter being able to destroy universes and Kirby being a little puffy-puff. Power levels are hard to compare, but Dio is prrrrobably stronger than Sakuya. But having him just ruthlessly smack her down just wouldn't be very interesting.

Probably more with One Minute Melee and less with Death Battle. In Death Battle, they have evidence. In OMM, it is simply Cool vs. Awesome, and the one who is the coolest win. Remember, "No Research" (well, minimal research as they know that damaging the Stand damages the User, and possible Call-Back how Dio thought he had squashed Jotaro under Road Rolla Da, only to be proven wrong).
Sakuya German Suplexing Dio and then dropkicking him is probable the best part.
