Successful, yes, controlled by corporate overlords, no. I've seen a number of things get ruined after the creators sold out
Your dad fought in WWII?
Yep. He was a US Army fighter pilot (the Air Force was not a separate entity back then) who fought on Iwo Jima.
Being the product of a May–December Romance did make for some awkward moments in history classes for me and my brother growing up. "Don't you mean Vietnam?" teachers would ask.
The Living Guildpact rules that coffee is an acceptable substitution for rest as specified in subsection … whatever.Tell me I'm not crazy and the writing for this game is actually ok? I can't help but feel like it but I know I can't actually properly judge anything so I need a 2nd opinion to confirm things. Still, outside of the 4th wall breaking/tongue in cheek humor everyone seems more or less on point on how I'd imagine them?
Using a guide isn't really a great idea mostly cause it's a bit outdated? You'll still get mostly sound advice but still. The reason Tenshi did nothing but spam Violent Motherland is because in the 3rd fight, she has an incredibly averse reaction to debuffs (but not status effects like Heavy).
Also Reimu taught me a new word when insulting Tenshi and I think it's the single most appropriate descriptor she could have possibly used. Please look up the meaning of "onanistic" if you hadn't heard it before. I'm mostly thinking of the self-absorbed definition here.
Obviously I have an all-oni party. Why wouldn't I? Kasen's usually not that great though, compared to the others. She's a bit too average I guess, so she doesn't stand out in any way. Nature is a bit of an awkward element for her AOE, but her debuffs are okay.
Incidentally, Aya is my star character because she gets 3 actions for everyone else's one. Not that she can do much damage, but just buffing everyone's speed makes her awesome.
The writing is not terrible. And fourth wall breaking isn't actually out of character, see: Marisa/Alice's dialog in SA.
The character art is a bit off-putting though: someone needs to teach the artist how breasts interact with clothes. At first I thought the artist must be a bit obsessed with them, but then I looked up their homepage and I guess it's more like they're not used to drawing them since they focus more on the childish characters? The whole thing reminds me of the terrible superhero comic proportions that get so much attention.
I don't really use the guides, I just read it after I lose a bunch to see if there's anything I missed. Their "advice" usually boils down to a list of resistances and weaknesses, which is pretty much unhelpful because the most important part is always their stats. Like, 2/3 of the bosses are effectively immune to either physical or magic simply from their stats but the guide never mentions it. Weaknesses are a multiplier that occurs after defense is subtracted, so honestly they don't matter all that much.
Anyway, I find the "incredibly averse reactions" to be very helpful, because a boss who's predictably powerful is better than one that's unpredictable. Forcing the opponent to spam their strongest move is how I beat Tenshi both times. Also constantly debuffing Yukari so she constantly dispels herself. Kasen was pretty useful there. Yukari is also weak against "oni" in general, amusingly.
I think Tenshi had a good role in this game. She was the character you love to hate, and even when she joined the party no one forgave her for anything. It was handled pretty well, given the light-hearted tone of the game.
I'm losing motivation to play now I'm mostly out of Touhou bosses to fight though. Getting Eiki seems like it would be a pain.

Jouchiruno Kujo, Bittan bittan (Some bizarre new Nico Nico meme.)
"Allah may guide their bullets, but Jesus helps those who aim down the sights."Major plot decision to be made.
That is too much choice for such a game changing decision!
Don't PM me. We don't like being PMed.Peach.
I do lots of stuff. The real question is am I any good at that stuff.Blueberry.
"Allah may guide their bullets, but Jesus helps those who aim down the sights."An entire watermelon.
Because it is what I always secretly wished I could order
but when I look into the expectant yet judgmental eyes of the server
I choke.

Well, the insides of coconuts are whitish-silverish, so coconut.
Ahhhhhhh, it's 95% of decisions in Mass Effect all over again D: They were all sooo massively critical to the intricate and amazingly branching ending(s?)!! Rachni Queen!
...oh nooooo, I can't decide! Also, our votes in here probably don't count, anyway ^^, I've never heard of several of the choices, and I've never had a fruit pancake before.
...so, peach.
"Mystia is a former German nun“ -Clarste //// "[...]collectively, we have the power to destroy the Aki sandwich" -ClarstePeach gets two votes! Wins by default. And of course you spare the Rachni Queen, she's so cute and cuddly.
Actually I'm not entirely sure how voting works in this story. Then again I also hate free will and choice so I think I'll just pretend that Stuffman is choosing himself.
Uhuh, I'm gonna vote watermelon.
Conception is sin Birth is pain Life is toil Death is inevitableAlright, fruit pancakes get!
...
...Wait, now the flavor has to be chosen? And it's a game changer? Darn! Hmmm... HMMM...
...I choose you, Blueberry!
Peach. Because there's no cloudberry.
Check out my fanfiction! And the other 5% were your choice of color?
I vote for...neutral flavor. Because I have a heart full of neutrality.
Double checks list. BOYSENBERRY. There are no other options but hateful lies and Filth! I don't care what stat bonuses, optimization, or alignment—boysenberry!

A pie bus falls into a multiversal convergence point. Hilarity ensues.NEXT TIME ON SILVERQUEST: WE PUT PERFECTLY GOOD FRUIT ONTO PERFECTLY GOOD PANCAKES....AND THAT'S TERRIBLE.
I have no horse, and I must ride. I accomplish unlockments.I wanted a Rachni party member. Was that too much to ask?
I don't like the phrase, either. If someone truly loves a franchise, wouldn't they want it to be successful? The "It's Popular, Now It Sucks!" mentality is one I find to be a possessive and selfish one.
Also;
Kantai Collection is something I just don't see myself ever getting into. As the son of someone for whom the characters' real world counterparts literally were the enemy, it would just feel awkward for me.
I have nothing against the people who do play it, or rest of Japan, though. In fact, I think it's kinda neat. I suppose you could say my interest in it's culture is what passed for teenage rebellion for me.
