Gah ^^ Clarste, I was just preparing to fall into bed! Well... ^^

Gaaaaah, what the freak is up with Toddler-Marisa on Page 5!? O_o

I know it's not, but I'd like to imagine Kasen is eating a Döner Kebap there on page 11 ^^. Looks like one, at least ^^. I approve [tup]

Man, a western-style-fortune teller. Or is that style also common in Japan?

I really like the implication on the "Reimu is absent"-pages that Sakuya, Youmu, Sanae and also Cirno(!) and Daiyousei(!!!) regularly visit Reimu to have a good time, and are sad when she's not there. smile That genuinely warms my heart.

The Kasen-Reimu cosplay is the greatest thing.

FRICK YEEEESSSSS, CANONICAL KOGASA/SEKIBANKI INTERACTION ON PAGE 22, THAT'S THE BEST THING EVEEEERRRRR [tup][tup]

My goodness, three Daiyousei cameos O_o There's more of her in this one chapter than in all the rest of canon ^^.

Dat ending is so amazing ^^. Everyone is happy on Reimu's doorstep? Can't have that! WHACK THAT CIRNO!! evil grin

Holy crap, Yuuka. At that point, no cameos surprise me anymore.

Page 21, up: "You haven't seen what the shrine looks like at day since you abandoned you, have you?" I guess that should be "it"? ^^ Unless it is a grammatically incorrect very philosophical point about Reimu abandoning her true self ^^.

Yes, though her specific outfit seems more of a local interpretation. Pretty sure I've seen a fortuneteller use the "Mother Placename" name format in Kara No Kyoukai, too.

Basically, Reimu is being ridiculously cliche.

This bit is a "Funny Aneurysm" Moment:

And Purplequest was never updated again.

BAD END

Also, on the next post, regarding Reisen's ability to manipulate wavelengths;

The strongest implementation of this ability at your disposal is being able to scramble an enemy’s brain waves to DRIVE THEM INSANE. This does not necessarily make them LESS DANGEROUS, so it must be used with planning and caution.

I thought I was the only one who realized this drawback to that power. In fact, it could make a foe even more dangerous to her.

Edit: Linked to the wrong trope. That has now been corrected.

  • Reimu knows how to swindle, but she really should be more Miko-like. ...Nah! If that were to happen, I'll probably say We Want Our Jerk Back!!tongue
  • Sorry, youkai friends. The shrine is open, but no one's home. So Kasen will fill the void for now. Pink-haired Reimu's cool, by the way.tongue
  • Of course, that meant Reimu's scheme was once again put to rout. But she once again found what she lost. Get off her lawn, darn youkai!tongue
  • Heya, Rin. Whatcha doin' here?

To mock Reimu.

Also, anti-pantyshot Seija skirt is now canon.

Also, anti-pantyshot Seija skirt is now canon.

Alas, it only works when she's floating upside-down. She needs to change into her normal skirt otherwise. Although... this can't be the first time Magic Skirt has been canonized... can it? I... I can't think of any other times we've seen someone floating upside-down...

Apparently Reimu stores her gohei/purification stick/whatever in her sleeve when its not in use. Well, or its even more evidence for hammerspace.

I never quite grasped just how terrible of a miko Reimu is until now

I'm gonna be over here, trying to not be insufferably smug about this. "I could make this a business or something!" indeed. "Divination is just another shrine maiden duty. Pretty sure."

I really like the implication on the "Reimu is absent"-pages that Sakuya, Youmu, Sanae and also Cirno(!) and Daiyousei(!!!) regularly visit Reimu to have a good time, and are sad when she's not there. That genuinely warms my heart.

Its the middle of summer so I find your warm heart unwelcome. Hence: Notice how the whole crowd is just as happy (indeed, perhaps more so) when Kasen's there shrining it up?

It gives me a strong impression that the Hakurei shrine is just a popular hangout spot. Since, hey, You can usually count on someone being there. Think like the pub everyone chills at in a small town, only for youkai instead of people.

I mean, heck, even Marisa is hanging out at the shrine rather than continuing to hang out with Reimu. It makes me wonder if in a sense, the shrine is the 'real Hakurei'. And Reimu, having lived there so long, just got conflated with it/believed people referred to her.

And that in turn makes me think Reimu is absolutely nowhere near as important as most people think she is. That as long as someone shrine maidens it up at the Hakurei Shrine, everything will be hunky-dory.

Or, to put it another way, there's no such thing as a 'Hakurei Bloodline'. It's just a job position (Albeit one with mystical elements) bestowed on whoever lives at the shrine. And whenever the position is empty, the shrine itself seems to attract someone to do the job (Sanae didn't seem to mind maintaining her rival's shrine while Kasen was training Reimu. And now we see Kasen jump into the role? Methinks the shrine [or its god] calls out for a shrine maiden)

And then weeps when Reimu inevitably returns.

Also, don't yell at the narrator, Reimu, even if it turns out to kinda have been Kasen. That was a fun bit of playing with the 4th wall.

I wonder if Kasen made contact with the 'hakurei shrine god' while she was keeping the place secure... Given that one of the blessings its supposed to hand out is youkai exterminations or something, one has to wonder how it felt about the whole situation. Maybe it was like "time for a change".

I'm curious who that is next to Aya on the last panel on the last page. No one is jumping to mind, but I want to guess its one of the kitties.

Also, I remain confused that the villagers had any trust in the Hakurei Shrine left to lose.

I think it interesting that what seems to be the very first time Reimu heard the voice of a god (you know, that wasn't physically manifest) happens to be the first time she actually starts being a proper shrine maiden (Well, for a little bit anyway, before her greed and pride naturally get in the way).

Perhaps its a sign that she's really truly got potential to be a good shrine maiden, and just isn't. Although considering this chapter also has Reimu in something the closest to success she's seen in a long time in WAHH, it could also suggest that it's a sort of changing point in her career, where she begins doing things 'right'. Maybe, in the end, all she needed was faith of her own.

On the other hand... Maybe she's still just a lazy greedy selfish proud loser.

Well, some one has to maintain the shrine itself. I mean, how many times has it been destroyed in canon?

I also like to imagine that (if this isn't canon) that the Human World has a parallel Hakurei Shrine which is in ruins.

I have been thinking that even if Hakurei Shrine doesn't need some one special to uphold it, maintaining it has been a family duty of the Hakurei bloodline. One they don't need to do, but its still a family tradition.

Wrong place at the wrong time, probably. I'm vaguely amused by imagining her as a drifting vagabond that ends up settling down in some abandoned shrine. Then she wakes up and everyone's pointing at her and calling her the hakurei shrine maiden.

I also like to imagine that (if this isn't canon) that the Human World has a parallel Hakurei Shrine which is in ruins.

I'm almost positive this is canon, but I'm not sure where it comes up.
