I was thinking the same thing.

What's your Tumblr? I need to get into more blogs, as a reason to actually use Tumblr. Also, any of 'em you'd recommend that you follow?

And I think someone once talked of Ninryu as "she". But that's all I know. Just like in the Pony thread: if it's about a magical land filled to the brim with nothing but awesome female characters, apparently the watchers and thread-goers will be 98 % dudes all day, erry day.

You know, now that that was mentioned... I don't think I ever read any kind of (positive or otherwise) critique/post of anything Touhou-related by a female person ever. Hmm, one blind DDC LP I watched was by a girl. That's pretty much it. It's just... I don't want to presume in any way to "know" how women "should" feel about anything... but... I would have imagined that Touhou would be quite awesome for... you know, good female characters and stuff? I'd go as far as to say that Touhou has more non-stereotypical, non-fanservicey, powerful, varied, independent and interesting female characters than all the mainstream video industry combined for the last five years at least.

I didn't mind at all. It was a phase that passed, and at the time I knew it was a phase that would pass, and I was willing to be patient and let the thread do what it pleased. If this thread bent to my whims at all times, I'd never have an excuse to do anything else, after all.

The fanservice that is there is either Self-Fanservice, or one of the many memes, like armpit fanservice.

I've searched for "feminist critique touhou" several times in Google at various points in my life, but the results are always disappointing.

Xion, you've made me recall vague memories of someone here speaking about a war or overthrowing the thread or somesuch. It's too fuzzy to remember details.

Indeed, Touhou in and of itself has good non-fanservicey female characters. I find most things are like that, it's the fanworks that bring such things into it.

In my personal experience, I've only known most Touhou fans over the Internet, two of which were female, and I've only met three in real life, not counting the three cosplayers I saw at an anime convention a few weeks ago.

...I'm still angry I couldn't get a picture with that Cirno. >_>

Me too. Meeting another Touhou fan in RL would be as amazingly awesome as it is ridiculously unlikely.

It was asterism! I remember now.

If the convention was anything to go by, it wouldn't surprise me, it seems obvious that most Touhou fans would know each other over the internet. Or from a convention. Judging by the cosplayers there, I'd be statistically more likely to meet Homestuck fans.

...Which doesn't surprise me either.

It's right here. Can't help you with the recommendations though, as I'm brand new to the scene and am still trying to figure it out.

For all the artists that were there at the convention, there was one booth selling posters that had four Touhou ones (one with Yuyuko and Youmu, one of Cirno running in a lake, one of the Scarlet Sisters, and one of Reimu and Marisa).

I did manage to snag the latter◊.

Huh, you'd think they'd have more, seeing how ZUN was there. There was a lot of Touhou stuff at the last Anime Expo I went to, and I snagged a sweet Team 9 poster.

No, no, this was a much smaller convention I went to back on the 30th of August.

ZUN was at Anime Weekend Atlanta. This convention was in Dallas.

A-Kon is rolling around sometime in June or July though, and it's way bigger, so I'm looking forward to probably seeing more cosplayers and merch there.

Once I have the opportunity though, I'd probably fly out to whatever anime expo he'll show up at next, though. It's definitely on my "list of shit to do years from now" list.

Hopefully this will warm him to doing more US appearances. If he shows up at Anime Expo or, even better, Comic-Con, I will rejoice and be glad in the Lord.

I must indeed say the answers at his Q&A didn't surprise me, but I did get a good laugh out of 'em.

There are plenty of female Touhou fans, you just have to know where to look. It seems that the majority of Touhou ask blogs are by women.

Ah, Fawriel! I meant to tell you I'd come across this◊ while looking for myself and my friends in the Skullgirls backer credits.

I'd say it is indeed safe to assume there are a fair amount of female Touhou fans, though.

Skullgirls seems cool. I have the demo but I haven't played it very much.

This is also something I'm really interested in reading, how would a feminist take on Touhou would be like. There is already on Hyperdimension Neptunia, perhaps this might interest you because those games have a parallel premise to Touhou, in the sense females do all the job and males aren't even scenery props.

Oh, Taker Foxx has a tumblr, cool, I'd be following if I had a tumblr, but I'll check from days to days (like I Always do with my people's tumblrs).
