I maintain that it's not far. You can't send your arm off to the kitchen whilst your in the lounge, can you?
Heart of StoneShe can make Myon fly off and hold position during the fighting games as well.
And my arm can't fly.

I have a message from another time...Myon is basically part of her body. Granted it's part of her body that floats around her head, but still part of her. We don't know her limits.
Heart of StoneTrue, but you can send a remote control car a ways away.
Okay, here's what I think about Youmu's halves, and why I think they can't separate.
Either she has a hefty connection between them, tethering them to eachother in some metaphysical, spatial sense, or she has at least a mental communication between her two halves, as they are the same person. Youmu's brain and Myon's spirit have the same thoughts, though perhaps colored slightly differently, because they are the same person. Like left brain right brain both being the same person kinda thing.
Now, I also think that Youmu's ghost half can sense. If they weren't "tethered" together like I just suggested, this would be reason enough to stay together, because, again, it's the same person experiencing those dual sensations. Normally she's walking around effectively cross eyed, and separating her ghost half would just make things more confusing. And Youmu handles confusion only slightly better than Futo.
I think its way more likely she legitimately forgot about meeting the heroine a few seconds prior. She's a bit of an airhead.
Possible she tried sending Myon off, and ended up with the biggest headache ever, which is why she can't remember the PC from a few seconds ago... though if that's the case, she's a scarily competent boss if she's fighting with a migraine.

I write some fanfiction. Satori's Tale is done... but I'm not.I'd think she'd just keep it nearer because, well, you tend not to send something vastly important off on its own. She's got the swords.
Avatar SourceHowever, a guard doesn't just abandon her mistress. It's a dilemma.
I have a message from another time...Are you saying if your soul were hovering around outside your body you wouldn't send it off into the world where it could be fairly easily destroyed by a number of cheatastic youkai, or imprisoned as an air conditioner?
Youmu's more a servant than a bodyguard, though. I mean she cuts the stupidly large garden every day, and that requires going quite a ways from Yuyuko as well. Heads off alone in TD, too.

I write some fanfiction. Satori's Tale is done... but I'm not.Her job is gardener, technically.
Of course not. Gensokyo demands insanity.
And half ghosts working for ghosts that are scared of ghosts.

Avatar SourceWell, Myon is part of Youmu. Sending off part of her would be horribly confusing. She's either seeing two things at the same time, which would melt your brain and/or make you terribly clumsy, or Myon is out of her sight, in which case it'd be blindly groping around because Youmu can't see what it's doing or where it is.
Heart of StoneYoumu isn't cutting the garden. She's cutting and guardin'.
I have a message from another time...There are a lot of cherry trees down there. Gardener.
Avatar SourceGroan!
So. Let's all pause for a moment to smell what the Rock was, is, and forever will be... cooking.—Cave JohnsonAs for the multiple sensory inputs: Youmu's lived with Myon for all of her unnatural life. It's less like "she got used to it" and more like "she never didn't have it". The closest thing I can think of is Andalites, with their two sets of eyes.
I have a message from another time...Well, Youmu is still quite young, but you make a point.
While she probably isn't all cross-eyed from the multiple inputs when they're recieving the same thing (from being in close proximity), it would be kind of different to send one off.
Most of us are pretty "good" at seeing and hearing and don't get totally confused. But we still get confused if you pump completely different input into one eye/ear than you do the other (Like, having a different screen viewed with each eye and with no overlap), as would be analagous to the case if Youmu and Myon were substantially separated.
I.E. She can be used to a different sort of perception, and still have difficulty sorting it out if stuff gets funny.

I write some fanfiction. Satori's Tale is done... but I'm not.Or maybe it's like in Kagetarou's comic Myon Myon Typhoon.
Without Myon, Youmu can not concentrate and becomes a scatterbrain.
How is that different from normal?
Forever liveblogging the AvengersLike I said, half baked.
So. Let's all pause for a moment to smell what the Rock was, is, and forever will be... cooking.—Cave JohnsonZUN.
So. Let's all pause for a moment to smell what the Rock was, is, and forever will be... cooking.—Cave JohnsonMy bet is that Myon is like Su-San, Myon has a certain degree of independence but Myon is naturally attracted to be around Youmu. I like to say Myon.
And the 'boorus don't. Even though it's more of a pain to type out konpaku_youmu_(ghost)
So. Let's all pause for a moment to smell what the Rock was, is, and forever will be... cooking.—Cave JohnsonThere's a lot of evidence that the games happen at roughly the time they come out. So Marisa and Reimu should probably be in their twenties, though we've never been given ages for them
Fairies are a kind of youkai. They're called yousei for a reason
Nope. Orreries Sun is Mima's version. The spheres she used in the PC-98 games haven't really returned

Heart of Stone
My main reason for the theory is her dialogue in the stage.
Midboss Youmu is all: "Ah! You're a human! I will drain every drop of the Spring from you!"
And then stage-boss Youmu is all "...Oh! A human. That must be why everyone's restless."
It's like she forgets about you between fights.
We do know that Myon can become a clone of her for a little while, though the fighting games. We just don't how far they can separate.
