Konoka has indicated that she does find some males attractive (generally the more effeminate ones, but still).

I think it may be a bit problematic, unless you make it a minor benefit of her semblence which she usually uses for other stuff (Hey, Schnee glyphs do all sorts of things).

Plus it's less of a ... direct translation of her abilities as such.

Of course, if you don't want chibi-Setsunas (why not? They're great!), you can always base it on high level Shinmeiryuu techniques ie. objects she holds can phase through whatever she wants them to.

I don't want the Semblance to be min-maxed. Like Qrow's luck, I was thinking this would be target neutral.

Nah, I mean, it would just make more sense if she just senses affection in general or something.

Eh, she doesn't need to have one. Torchwick did just fine.

Just thought it was fitting.

I'd assume Konoka's semblence would be healing.

I was planning to have her be 'the girl back home'. Three teams is a lot to juggle.

Ah! Understood. Giving her the full "oujo-treatment". Like Weiss if she didn't rebel against her father.

Who else is on the three teams?

Thinly-veiled Emiya Shiro, Mashu and Dick Grayson, plus the canon RWBY and JNPR.

Also decided to go with Berryjam (BRJM) over Jamboree. Berry is occasionally a color…

That works.

Are you going to make Dick a robin faunus as a joke?

I suppose Shirou's semblence would be reinforcement and Mashu's would be some kind of energy shield or something.

Actually, Shiro's is that he can use any weapon as well as it's user, provided it's a sword (Qrow has luck powers, it doesn't need to make sense) by accessing the 'accumulated experience of the weapon', meaning he's only as god as the user was, when they used that weapon, and only know the moves they used with the weapon.

Mashu's is she can increase her mass (but not her density or weight. Qrow's Luck!) by a factor of 10, and slowly increasing by 10 percent every 10 seconds as long as she remains immobile. If it sounds weird, it's because it lets her be super-tanky when she uses her big-as shield.

Dick won't be a robin faunus, and his semblance is... people notice his ass. That's it. He has Remnant's most eye-catching ass. [lol]

Is Mashu a colour? I notice that the other teammates actually fulfill that rule.

Well, it'll be mentioned her in-universe nickname is, unfortunately, 'Eggplant'.

Got it. So they all fit. Cool.

Went with a slight name change though, since I didn't want them to be direct crossovers. So officially, they're Setsuna Cherrybloom, Gray Richardson, Shiro von Einzbern, and Mathew "Eggplant" Kyrielight. Because otherwise the team that gets grayson comes out named either "Dips", "Despise" or "Episode". Which... are kind weird.

Well, started writing the fic in earnest, though having the usual starting stumbling block. I don't want to replicate the start and do a Stations of the Canon run, but that leaves me having to do an original start, and… ugh. Writer problems.[lol]

Three quarters of the team are Japanese, so have the start in Mistral. Salem has been working there the longest, so grimm attacks and hunter disappearances are going up. Yet Leo isn't coordinating with the other kingdoms. This naturally concerns your team.

Pyrrha is from Mistral, so they know her and may have even been former classmates.

They are expected to travel to Vale for the Vytal festival to compete in the tournament, and so are these three mysterious new students, named Cinder, Emerald and Mercury.

Setsuna is concerned about the possibility of leaving Konoka behind to compete in the tournament and she feels a debt of loyalty to Leo, who is a fellow faunus who took her in after being abandoned by her human family in shame as evidence of her mother's one-night stand with a faunus.

Shirou moved to the city after he was rescued by his huntsman adopted father from his home village destroyed in a grimm attack. His father died young and he is now an orphan. He is determined to become a huntsman as strong as his father to save everyone. He wants to compete in the tournament to become a better huntsman and to convince the Vale branch of the White Fang to make peace with humanity.

Dick was adopted by a bat faunus huntsman after his parents were murdered. He learnt to fight from his adopted father, but wants to do more and wants to visit Vale, not just to prove to his adopted father that he is ready to b a huntsman, but to scope out the city and decide if he wants to move there.

Mashu wishes to impress her senpai, who is also competing, at the tournament. She received an organ transplant from a huntsman who was killed in battle which saved her life, and since then, she feel a connection to him and feels a need to live up to him. She has even developed a similar semblence. He was born in Vale and so she wants to visit his home to learn more about him and look for guidance. She also feels a sense of dread that his death was something more than that from normal huntsman duty and represents an oncoming threat to the world. She eels a duty to oppose that and to be ready to stand and defend her senpai when the time comes.

How's that for a start?

Ah, maybe I should have begun with explaining the starting concept. Instead of Cinder finding Emerald, it was Weiss, who managed to get her taken in as a ward of the Schnee family. The story is from her POV, and she's going to Beacon in place of Weiss (due to having a new family member whose not an ass like her brother, Weiss doesn't decide to be a Huntress, and instead Emerald does because of how much Weiss looks up to Winter).

Though thanks for pointing out how their backgrounds could be adapted. My ideas were Mashu has a connection to Torchwick, Shiro has a sibling who works at Beacon so that's why he's going there despite originally being from Mistral (I'm taking the OM approach to populating a school and stealing a bunch of characters from other works), and Setsuna is there because Blake is. Yes, Blake's her Konoka. Instead of gaydar, I'm leaning towards an ability to sense magnetic north.

Cool. That does fit with her birdness. (And Blake being a harem protagonist)

Right now, the start is Emerald stealing a wallet out of habit and giving it back to its owner. I also have in mind her meeting Mashu after the news broadcast about Torchwick, though we'll see how. That goes.

Eh, maybe I skip the airship part and go straight to either the sleepover or initiation…

You don't miss much if you skip the airship ride.

Btw Sereg, have you read Beacon Civil War? Great story whose concept I wanna copy. Unfortunately, not a lot of my fandoms have enough guys to make it work but Harry Potter, and that fandoms gotten a bit too militant for me lately. They're too shippy. It's like dealing with 90s Ranma fandom…

I haven't. I'll give it a try. But understood. The shipping in the RWBY FNDM is stupid.

EDIT: Oh! The HP fandom? Yeah. They get crazy too.

The shipping in the RWBY FNDM is stupid.
Does that include the RWBY FNDM shippers who apparently got so sick of the shipping wars that they went full-on OT3 or Marry Them All instead of just sticking with OTPs like most of the shipping war factions do?

Nah. Just the ones who decided on pairings based on order of the trailers and stick to the in the face of everything else.

... You're assuming that all or even the majority of, say, Ruby/Weiss-shippers base their ship's validity on the fact that the Red trailer was followed immediately by the White trailer, as opposed to in-show happenings and hints/subtext, such as the fact that Ruby and Weiss are officially partners (in accordance to the Initiation custom of partnering with the first trainee with whom you make eye contact after being launched into the forest), or the speed with which Weiss becomes more friendly towards Ruby. And let's be honest, Ruby and Blake don't interact much on-screen, nor is there a hint that they do interact off-screen, do they? note
