I think that I'm going to make the next album I force upon you all one of my own, cuz I'm an egotist like dat.

Either that or cLOUDDEAD.

Arks: No, I genuinely like it too. This is my favorite violin piece. I know Wicked is fond of it, as well.

Hrrrm. Gackt = so far so not really sure. In theory, I should hate this. It contains many of my bĂȘtes noire - Fret wank, check. Overwrought vocals, check. 'Epic' sounding without actually being in any way epic, check. Token piano ballad, check. And yet... I find myself not hating it. Not particularly liking it either, but still. Anyways, I'm only 5 tracks in, so it could still all go horribly wrong.

And how in God's name does he drag these tracks out for 6 minutes?

Fret wank

This is such an amazing way of describing exactly what I was thinking.

Long album is looooooooooong.

Track 8 sounded like a Eurovision entry, which kept me amused for a bit.

Otherwise, it's still straddling that boundary between 'really not my kinda thing at all' and 'I'm perfectly happy to listen to this, but I'm not gonna keep it'.

My stance is that we're all intelligent and open-minded music lovers. Otherwise we wouldn't be part of this club. Therefore the goals in suggesting albums should be to get discussion going. Also to help the other members find music they might not otherwise.

^ Agreed. When I set this thread up, my intention was to get people to listen to things that they wouldn't normally listen to, maybe to break down a few misconceptions and allow us all to discuss in an open fashion what we like, what we don't like, and why. I dunno to what extent it's done that so far but as long as people are enjoying it and still find it a worthwhile exercise, that's fine.

EDIT: Finished listening to Gackt - Re:Born. As I already mentioned, I should by all logical evidence have hated this album, but there was something preventing me from doing so. And it clicked at track 8. Kitsch. The only thing standing between me intensely disliking this album and merely finding it a bit daft was the fact that it was plastered in a kind of Queen-meets-Eurovision kind of naffness. Track 10 sounded for all the world like, somewhere underneath the earnest singing and blaring guitars, was the bastard lovechild of a gameshow theme tune and something from a Mortal Kombat soundtrack. And on the final track, in a genuinely nice touch, there were some string and piano arrangements that wouldn't have been out of place in a more recent Final Fantasy game. Slathered in the same 'epic' guitars and ludicrous singing as every other track, of course. All in all, really not my cup of tea, but occasionally something caught my attention, and it was far too kitschy to hate. 4.5/10.

I think this is a Guilty Pleasure album.

Except for "Koakuma Heaven", which I really, really like.

I hated Koakuma Heaven the first couple times through. Now it's easily my favorite song from the Album.

New album time!

The random number is a 5, which means our new album is The Justified Ancients Of Mu-Mu - 1987 (What The Fuck Is Going On?).

Over to you to give us links, Spain.

Alright! Tracks, via Youtube, as I noted earlier one is missing, that'd be "The Queen and I" if you're wondering why I can't find it, you've obviously never gone looking for it.

  1. Hey, Hey, We are not The Monkees! - Lots of samples of people saying "Monkey". Cool singing part by a female vocalist whose name escapes me at the moment.
  2. Mind the Gap Interlude - The first of many interludes on the album. Sound collage of noises from the London subways.
  3. Don't Take Five (Take What You Want) (featuring Chike) - Possibly my favorite song on the album, one of the two really rappish ones, and one of two to feature JAMS associate Chike.
  4. Rockman Rock (Pts 2 and 3) (featuring Chike) - The other rappish song, and the other one featuring Chike. Has a cool singing section too, possibly my favorite track on the album.
  5. Why Did You Throw Away Your Giro? Interlude - Another interlude, a recording of someone saying stuff.
  6. Me Ru Con (featuring Duy Khiem) - If it is possible for the extremely diverse career of The Justified Ancients of Mu-Mu/The KLF to have a Big-Lipped Alligator Moment, this is an acapella rendering of a Korean folk song, sung by a friend of the JAMS. I swear to you that this is from the same album.
  7. Top of the Pops Interlude - The last interlude on the track, made out of samples of-get this-Top Of The Pops! Who would've guessed it?
  8. All You Need is Love (Album Version) - There are several versions of this song, but this is the one with most (but not all, that's the single version) samples intact, and is the best in my opinion, it's also the one found on the album. Might be my favorite track there.
  9. Next - Frankly, this might be the weirdest track on the album, what with the sampled yodeling. Also might be my favorite.

And to compensate for not having "The Queen and I" you can have whatever the hell this is.

Spain, would you consider making a Youtube playlist of all those videos?

I could do it, if you can't?

I think they're actually already in a playlist for the most part.

I don't know how and don't have the time to learn. So it'd be awesome if you could.

Has anyone listened yet?
