Still watching older episodes. Man, I'd forgotten how different everybody was in the first few episodes. There's a lot of stuff I'm glad they changed (mostly about Gus and Lassiter), but there's a few things I kind of wish they'd kept...

I especially wish that they had kept Shawn actually being exceptionally smart, just pretending to be an idiot, instead of being a real idiot.

^ Likewise, though I feel like as the show went on they found a nice groove between Idiot Hero, Brilliant, but Lazy and simply having his goofballness be part of him rather than an act. I wish they kept the "Shawn makes a very silly seeming conclusion then very seriously explains the method behind it" running gag, but then that bit relied on Gus constantly underestimating Shawn's abilities, so maybe not.

On that note, I really don't like the way Shawn and Gus' relationship is written for a decent chunk of the first season. They didn't really have a lot of chemistry or relate to each other well, and in general it makes Shawn look like a total Jerkass who only keeps Gus around to have someone to screw with and Gus look like a babysitter who clearly doesn't want to be there. It's a big reason why I thought the show was kind of meh when the show first came out.

Also Lassie in the first few episodes is outright insufferable. He feels a lot like "first few episodes Disher," now that I think about it.

Currently re-watching the series and have reached the season 5 finale.

shouldn't the fact that Alison allegedly knew what Shawn looked like as a kid have been the first clue that there was something not right about her story?

Interestingly, while Shawn and Gus are explicitly based in San Francisco now, the movie still takes place in Santa Barbara.

So, no Monk crossover just yet. sad

There was a Psych movie? Was it any good?

Pretty decent. It was basically a finale for the tv series.

Wasn't the finale them moving to San Francisco?

Yeah, but the movie has it that some of the things that looked like they were getting resolved in the finale weren't actually resolved (Shawn, for example, never actually proposed to Juliet and needed another life lesson to get his shit together).

It felt like it was re-tying up loose ends while trying to start its own thing, which I guess makes sense since the plan was to maybe keep these movies going as long as they want to.

Was Shawn someone really smart who just happened to act stupid like he was at the start of the show, or was he still the idiot of the last two seasons? (that was the main reason I stopped liking the show).

It's been a while since the movie was fresh in his mind, but... I do remember it leaning towards the latter, yeah.

Urgh...okay then. I'll stick to what I have on DVD then. And imagine that the Nigara Fall episode is the season finale.

There wasn't a lot of Juliet in "A Very Juliet Episode".

So... the movie's out, with anyone who has Peacock. I don't really want to do another streaming service right now, so I'm mostly just waiting for NBC to put it on network tv.
