Dragon Quest IV, Dragon Quest V, Dragon Quest IX?
Add Dragon Quest I+II and Dragon Quest III while you're at it.
Helpful Scripts and Stylesheets here. They cheap?
TWEWY, hands down.
All of the main Pokemon titles are solid games. And, if you can stand the difficulty, Final Fantasies III and IV.

And FF 4(not the DS version), and a good amount of pokeymans.
You could always try the Dept Heaven games...
I would also recommend Infinite Space, if you like Science Fiction JRP Gs.
Last Defense Line.Dragon Quest I+II and Dragon Quest III should be very cheap. They're for the GBC.
I still use my Game Boy Advance SP, due to all the old Gameboy Games i still play.

ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.Apparently, Dragon Quest V is pretty expensive due to its rarity. Dragon Quest IV has the Square Enix tax(so I think it's about $40), and Dragon Quest IX has the Nintendo tax(about $35).
Helpful Scripts and Stylesheets here.Necroing this because it isn't a reccomendation thread, that was just what I needed at the time. This is for all handheld video game discussions.
Favorite types of handheld games, or game series?

I really like handheld RPGS.
Reason? RPGS in general have few savespots, but in the handhelds there's usually at least a quicksave or sleep mode.
One of my few regrets about being born female is the inability to grow a handlebar mustache. -LandstanderI haven't really been hit hard enough by this handheld phase I've dropped into.
However, the two Ys games that XSEED's brought over for the PSP are extremely fun action RPGs with strong boss fights. I'm probably going to play both on higher difficulties later just so I can really get at the meat of why they're truly enjoyable, which isn't something I do a whole lot.
Similarly, while I only played a little of Dragon Quest V on the DS, I predict a beautiful, fulfilling attachment to the series.

"People are calling me stupid on the internet."Did you try IX? As far as I'm concerned, it's brilliant.
One of my few regrets about being born female is the inability to grow a handlebar mustache. -LandstanderI want Birth By Sleep sooooo badly. Just seeing a giant game stuffed to the brim with... stuff like that on a handheld just makes me so happy.
In any case, right now I'm playing Pokemon SS. Training my teams in order to get ready for B&W's release next year.

I want birth by sleep though. Don't care for the other KH games; it's on the DS, I can get it now, and just read spoilers and watch my friend play it or youtube it some other time!
^^^: No, but I have it as well. But I'm a weird stickler about playing things in relative order, so I'll probably get to it after IV, V, and VIII, whenever I get to playing those.
It sounds really awesome.

"People are calling me stupid on the internet."I've got the sudden urge to play the Donkey Kong Land games again, 2 in particular.

Estimated shipping time: 2-4 weeks. The Mario And Luigi games are some of the best things to happen to the entire franchise in terms of spinoffs. Not only are the action commands a very engaging addition to the RPG formula, but the series makes great use of the Mario characters as well as introducing new ones that fit right in. Bowser's Inside Story in particular is the most satisfyingly written Mario game I've played and reminded me why I love Mario games aside from gameplay reasons: the characters are just so memorable. Even the Mooks get unforgettable characterization.
^ The Hammer Bros. from Partners in Time honestly made me laugh out loud.

Now then, fellow tropers, I am faced with terrible and life altering financial crisis. I can't decide which handheld to buy.
I originally planned on purchasing a PS Vita with Persona 4 Golden. I'm a huge fan of the persona franchise, and I've heard good things about the Vita.
On the other hands, the 3ds looks awesome, and I'm super pumped for Pokemon X and Y. (Specifically, the Pokémon Ami feature. I want to hug every Pokémon in the game, every one.)
I only have the money to pick one and I don't know what to pick.

To start it off: Anyone know of some good JRPG's?
