TheSpacePhantom: The tower's about as wide as your chest, so you'll have trouble getting in. You might want to try something else. Also, yay comments! Could be more in depth but oh well.

Tabbune: I'm just going to clarify some things to save some trouble. You're not capable of summoning minions aside from one animal familiar of your choice (though you are capable of temporary summons such as root binding, swarms, and any "nature"-based spell/attack you can think of, each of which lasts for a short period of time). You'd have to be a class that specializes in using mooks such as necromancer or summoner in order to get multiple mooks without receiving the ability/troops via power!loot or NPC allies. Because of the way I run combat, summoning has the potential to be insanely powerful since you have an extra contribution to damage/battlefield control and a pseudo-shield to absorb your failures/injuries. Also with a druid-esque class like shaman, summoning flame elementals is outside your expertise, if that's what you're going for. I just want you to know that, at this stage in the game, you're not going to be powerful enough to be able to assault fortified compounds without gaining serious power via upgrades and NPC allies. Early on, players are somewhat limited in their capabilities. Considering this, you might want to try something else.

I really like the world you've built for this. I don't feel I've seen enough to make any concrete theories about background/plotstuff, but it all seems well thought-out and original. The unicorns especially interest me. Overall, I really just love the whole high fantasy/cosmic horror feel of everything, and the bits of humor scattered throughout are always hilarious.

On a different note, I haven't been paying much attention to the other guys, so when I respawn, will it be in the same place and time as where/when I died?

Brah: Thanks, though I'm not sure that I'd call this high fantasy except for the existence of unicorns and stuff. It's understandable that you don't have a complete picture if you're just looking at your own posts, but I've given out a ton of information when you look at all the posts combined. And given my tendency to text walls, some of that information can easily get lost or forgotten. And some stuff is implied but not explicitly stated. Because of all the mayhem that occurred near the place where you died, I don't think you'll spawn near there since the large number of possessed people may cause some problems. You can try though, but I'd have to roll for it. Most likely, I'll place you in some area previously unexplored by the players.

Try to cut down the skyward cord.

Honestly, I'm really, really enjoying this, although I'm afraid I can't give any more elaborate an opinion on that... Although, I do have one question to ask: Since you added Laguz (which was really bleeding cool of you, by the way), is it all the original Fire Emblem tribes, just the Birds or just the Ravens?

CathariSarad Since: Jan, 2014
#7407: Sep 7th 2014 at 10:07:56 AM

Rhyme and Treason: So far it's just the raven laguz that exist in the setting. The only Fire Emblem game I've actually played is Blazing Sword, and I haven't even completed that. Since I figured that what you described could exist in this setting, I decided to add them in with their own culture and stuff. I'd have to do more research before I add them in, since I only did the bare minimum to figure out what you were referring to. Especially since there are several regions with unaccounted for subcultures, it wouldn't be too hard for me to work them in if I looked up the other ones.

Makes sense, I'll probably go back and read through the others' sessions sometime. And man, I never got to make my move on Sturm :T

So, since I most likely won't respawn where I left off, I have three options. The first would allow me to start off with everything I've been searching for most of this round. The second would give me an interesting new perspective on this world and how it works. And the third... Well, it could open up infinite possibilities.

Decisions, decisions...

Brah: Considering that's a meta action, I just decided to roll for it right away so you can get back to the actual game. I didn't feel like actually flipping a coin so I just rolled the dice. I got a four. I figured 1-2 means first option, 3-4 means second option, 5-6 means third option. What decision you make for respawning with class/race combination is entirely up to you. So make your actual post for respawning. What was your third option by the way? If you want to do one of the other options then do so.

I whisper to the Orc spear man that there is an Unicorn here and that our only hope of saving his friends and surviving is to wake Marisa.

It doesn't matter if he believes me or not I attempt to attack the unicorn using my spear and sword with my ability essence reaver. (I'm going to try and add the unicorn's soul to my own.)

I'm really enjoying this. It reads like a story with us telling the characters what to do. Npcs are interesting, Marisa strikes me as a misguided child, the shaman from earlier I just realized sent me to the temple to kill the witch, and the others I'm still learning about. Catherine could be a god who has trapped the other gods in this world in order to bring about order and uses unicorns to distract them lest the other gods remember who they are and bring about utter chaos on this world.

It comes. The corrupter comes. Don't let it touch the tower lest all reality crumble.

Turn 48

First time posts for this session require you to state a race and class of a Dnd/Fantasy RPG variety. This is an RTD with some continuity and I want to make sure you don't show up with space-themed stuff when that doesn't fit with the general theme. I also recommend reading through my previous posts to get a sense of how I run things and some of the things you don't want to do. You'll also get a sense of the stuff that's going on by doing so.

Well, I certainly seem to be getting a lot of new players lately. Also, this is probably my longest post so far.

Trip: (6) Seeing that you seem to have determined your own gender, you celebrate in victory. You then turn your attention to reading the book. For a brief moment, Cathy’s face on the cover seems to have a shocked expression. Finding this a bit strange, you examine the cover once again, but the cover seems to be the same as it was before. It was probably just your imagination and you most definitely didn’t see anything of the sort. You flip open the cover and begin reading through the guide. There’s a table of contents with several chapters, but some of the later ones don’t have titles or page numbers attached to them. Chapter 1 is labeled "An Introduction." The following chapters are labeled "On Savral: Peoples and Cultures," “Beginner’s Tactics," "The Fundamentals of Magic: Basic Spellcrafting," "Advanced Magical Control: A Physical Perspective," "A Complete Beastiary," and "Suggested Projects."

Once you turn the page to chapter one, you read the following: Cathy wants you to click this.

"But first, you’ll want to establish some infrastructure in your territory. After all, once you get a sizable force up and running, you’re going to need to maintain it. If you haven’t already, you might want to explore your domain and learn what’s in it. From there, you may use your magical abilities to construct whatever utilities you may need. A few simple ideas are outlined in detail in chapter 7, but you are by no means limited to these ideas. If you can find an application for your magic that suits your needs, go for it. Hell, you can start by building a portal network around your territory (Seriously, you should start exploring your land).

"But still, you should keep watch for other witches, otherwise they’ll simply conquer your lands before you can do anything.

"And remember, always remember to praise Cathari Sarad. It is always a good idea to keep Cathari entertained. If Cathy likes you, then things are more likely to go your way. And never try to do anything suicidal or tactically unsound like trying to take a fortress on your own or doing things that can only have negative consequences. While things may be beyond your control, Cathy does not take kindly to deliberate incompetence.

"Now, you may feel free to browse the other chapters, or you could simply ask questions directly to this text. This book is fucking magical so it should be able to answer any conceptual questions you may have. Here, let me show you."

Once you finish reading the text, you are sent by a burst of flame sent straight into your face. The blast also slams you into the wall behind you. While the fire doesn’t last, you can feel the burns all across your face. You hear Cathy’s voice,    "KYAHAHAHAHA!!!"    Should you get back up to look at the book, you see that Cathy’s face now bears a sadistic grin and her eyes are wide open.

Kayne: (4) Jadice says, "That I shall. But first you must meet with the keeper here. I shall be waiting for you outside." After that, she disappears. You walk out of the room and head into the lobby-area. You find the man from before behind the counter.

He speaks to you, "Well, I hope you enjoyed your stay here. May the lord’s blessings be upon you." After making your farewell, you exit the building. You see the angel standing just a few steps in front of you. In addition, there seem to be a few people wandering about, some of whom are gazing at her.

"Let’s get moving." After that, she lifts up and grabs you just like before. Once again, you ascend into the sky, and Jadice begins flying in a southerly direction. Although you briefly come across the mountain range once more, it eventually disappears into the distance. For the most part, you see nothing but desert dunes with an occasional oasis. There seem to be many small figures scattered along the landscape, but you can’t get a clear view of them. After traveling for about two hours or so, you see a massive pyramid structure in the distance. Far ahead, you can see several of the figures clustered at various locations. A series of walls surrounds the pyramid and several buildings surround this. Just outside of this, there seem to be several streams snaking outward along with various foliage growing nearby. Once you seem to be several miles from the main structure, the two of you begin descending onto the top of a dune, far away from most of the figures. As you descend, you can see that several of the figures seem to be wearing cloaks, but you can’t get a good look at their faces.

The angel turns to you once more, "I’m afraid this is as far as I can go. You must continue on your own. If you can find a way to destroy the wards, then I might be able to help you. Until then, there are other things I must see to." With that, Jadice disappears once again.

Tabbune: (6) As you’re not particularly inclined to enter the fortress anytime soon, you begin searching around for any signs of a village, starting towards your left alongside the ravine. After several minutes, you come across a dirt path leading into the ravine and then extending to the right. Across the ravine, the road seems to continue into the mountains. Seeing as you might find something by taking this route, you walk along the road. After about thirty minutes or so, you come across several stone houses arranged in a grid-like fashion. As you get close, you notice the ground seems to be covered in a thin fog. As far as you can tell, there doesn’t seem to be anyone in the area. Although it would seem these houses belong to common folk, all of them have varied, intricate carvings on the outside. Some of them have writing above the entryways, but you don’t recognize the language. Some of the houses seem to have pots, hearths, furnaces, and other furnishings, but there doesn’t seem to be any signs of anyone around. As you explore the various houses, you begin to notice that much of the vegetation surrounding this village has withered away. At the ninth house you explore, you find a skeleton of a smallish humanoid sprawled on the ground alongside a bronze axe. As you figure it might not be the best idea to stay here, you quickly look around to see if you can find anything of note before you leave. Only a second passes before you hear something akin to a groan and some sort of mist flows into the skeleton. For an instant, you see a whitish, transparent dwarf with his limbs bent in some contorted fashion. The image goes away, but you hear some faint ringing in your ear. The skeleton lifts itself up and grabs its axe. You begin to run out, but you see five more skeletons hobble out of some of the houses you haven’t yet examined. Four of them have crossbows while the other one wields some sort of hammer.
TheSpacePhantom: (4) You turn around to face the depression and begin descending down the slope with care. It takes you about a minute or so to reach the bottom, but you don’t have any difficulty this time. When you look down into the hole, you see a stone platform a short distance down. On the center of this, you see a single, metallic stone, emphasized by outward lines on the platform. Additionally, there seems to be a stone lining farther down the hole. Although you could possibly make the jump, you’re going to be falling at least twenty feet or so. As you look around the nearby area, there seems to be a portion of grass that seems a bit discolored.
Rhyme and Treason: (4) You move in to cut down the cord. As you get closer, the area seems to become completely silent. You fly over the large mass of flesh and hover next to the cord. You then swing with you axes. You slice through it surprisingly easily. The lower portion recedes into the hulking mass of flesh while the rest pulls upward into the statue. While the octarine shell stays in its place, the stone statue descends toward you, allowing you to examine it more clearly. The statue depicts an elf woman with her arms stretched downward to the side. Its eyes and open smile make it seem almost predatory. The statue’s hair is fashioned in a ponytail. You hear the voice once more,    "So you’ve decided to play for a little bit? Kihihihihihi… AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! AHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MUCH OF AN IDIOT YOU HAVE TO BE TO THINK YOU HAVE ANY CHANCE OF OPPOSING ME? DID YOU REALLY THINK THAT SIMPLY CUTTING MY EXTENSIONS WOULD PUT AN END TO ME? I AM FUCKING IMMORTAL! THOSE PUNY AXES ARE NOTHING COMPARED TO SOMETHING AS WONDERFUL AS ME! IT IS USELESS! I SHALL CONSUME YOUR FLESH AND BLOOD JUST LIKE ALL THE OTHERS! KYAHAHAHAHA!!! AHAHAHAHA!!! AHAHAHAHA!!!" You have engaged Idol of Cathari Sarad.
Jondanger23: (Free) You are a dwarf archer. As is obvious, your specialty is ranged combat. Although you are an “archer,” you come equipped with a heavy crossbow along with bolts because you are a dwarf. Because your crossbow is of dwarven construction, it is just as good as most composite/longbows. You are still capable of using ordinary bows as well. You also are equipped in scale armor. Like everyone else, you have basic provisions and supplies to suit you for your journey.

You find yourself midway up a fairly large mountain. Ahead of you, there is a fairly long wooden rope bridge. Farther down, you see a small village surrounded by a tropical forest spanning in all directions. Behind you, you see a massive structure supported by columns near the top of the mountain. You seem to be standing on a mountain path leading to this structure. Additionally, there seems to be some rectangular stone tablet lodged into the side of the mountain with a series of symbols you don’t recognize.

B Ra Hi An 1: (Free) You are a shade sorceress. As you are a shade, you have minor darkvision. You specialize in destruction-based magic and are the functional equivalent of a battlemage. You come equipped with a staff with a crystal orb on top to function as your magical implement. As you are a mage, you don’t come with any special armor, just simple cloth garments and a cloak. As is usual, you come with basic provisions. Additionally, you retain your ability to heal others along with your exorcism spell. However, you lose your natural knowledge of most written languages and you lose your surplus supply of coins. As you are effectively taking a new form, you aren’t necessarily associated with the nation of Imarat.

You spawn in the middle of a forest clearing. Ahead of you, to the southeast, you see about three squadrons of dragonborn soldiers in some sort of defensive formation. In each squadron, a row of around five spearmen stand at the front. A few crossbowmen stand behind them while taking cover behind the shields. Just about all of them are wearing only helmets and loincloths. Farther ahead, you see many winged figures flying in and out of the trees. Arrows and bolts, and spells are flying back and forth, and the squads move several times to dodge them. Near the trees, you see many dead dragonborn soldiers impaled through thin spires. Several bird-human hybrids lay dead on the ground along with some of the dragonborn. Bits and pieces of the ground have been blasted apart and large chunks of the forest seem like they have been recently burnt. Water is continuously splashing from behind the trees, putting out any flames that appear. Many spades lie unattended on the ground ahead. The ground underneath you seems to be covered in some sort of magical seal.

Just to your left, you see two human mages wielding staffs firing fireballs, magic missiles, and thunderbolts toward the winged figures ahead. Toward your right, behind you, you see a gray, hairless, humanoid sort of creature whose mouth has been replaced by a series of tentacles. It seems to be wearing leather armor along with a black cape and shoulder pads. The creature seems to be using a cane-like staff. Behind it, you see a large pole stuck into the ground holding a black banner up high. Said banner depicts two white dragons holding up a bronze scepter with an eye-like gleam on top. There also seems to be some sort of lettering underneath these figures but you don’t recognize the language. Further beyond, you see several dragonborn soldiers with various injuries spread out along the ground. Beyond that, you see the coast along with a large galley.

The tentacle-mouth creature turns to you and says, "Dammit! Mage, blast those things out of the sky! That’s an order!"

Wordless Summons: (Free) You are an elven psion. You have the ability to manipulate things with your mind and can conjure minor mental constructs to aid you in battle. Additionally, you have the capability to dominate people, up to one at any given time, though this won’t succeed against those with strong wills. You don’t have any weapons or magical implements with you, but you have basic provisions like everyone else.

You find yourself alongside a beach heading along a southwest-northeasterly direction. Inland, you see a road and a wooden tower standing nearby. Additionally, you see a wooden log building adjacent to the tower. A few soldiers seem to be standing alongside the road, but you don’t see anyone else in the area. Towards the far west, you see a small town elevated above the rest of the plains.

Philosopher: (1) By the way, thanks for the complement. Though, I can neither confirm nor deny whether your theory is correct. After whispering to the spearman, you move forward to strike at the wall where the unicorn is hiding, transforming your arms beforehand into a spear and sword. While you manage to shove the spearman to the side, your weapons simply bounce off the wall and you fall back to the ground due to the shock. Shortly after, the unicorn head stretches out of the wall. Before you can stand up and back away, its mouth stretches wide open and the unicorn swallows you whole. As you descend into its insides, you several fleshy cords reach out from whatever foul organ you’re now in and cling onto your skin. For every one that attaches itself, you feel a sharp pain akin to a thorn. All sound from the outside world has been cut off. Then you hear a voice all around you,    "You thought you could absorb my soul? What a foolish thought. It is you who shall become a part of me! KYAHAHAHAHA!!! AHAHAHAHAHA!!!"    You feel yourself becoming sucked dry as the cords drain out all the blood from your body until you can feel no more.    You died.    Respawn?
Rivux: (6) Seeing that you need to examine the situation further, you move past the wagon, keeping your distance while watching them. Eventually, you see the end of the eye’s pupil, but you use the terrain to conceal yourself. You don’t seem to gain any new information through observing the wagon, but you consider that separating the cart from the oxen might allow you to snatch it before the escort can act. However, you do notice a few scrolls beside the driver. Additionally, the eyeball seems to rotate whenever the driver makes a slight gesture with his hand. You eventually make it to the stream and begin to cross. Neither the driver, nor the escort seem to have noticed you. However, as you cross, you see two goblins, and three cloaked humans hiding under the bridge. You couldn’t see them before due to the angle of the archway under the bridge with your position. One of the goblins says, "Shit! They’ve found us!"

All five of them run out from under the bridge while one of the humans makes a dash towards you. Said human seems to be carrying a staff. Once everyone has run out, the mage makes a sideways swing. Immediately, the bridge explodes, sending stones flying everywhere. One of them hits you in the side, causing you to topple over into the stream. The mage makes another swing, sending a force bolt into your underside. This sends you backwards, scraping your back into the muddy ground. Meanwhile, the four others move to surround the cart. While the ox tries to turn around, the driver steps down and sends a blue burst toward one of the humans. Though this bandit dodges, a pillar of ice forms at the site of impact. Meanwhile, the escort stands near the driver, discouraging the others from closing in.

Okay, time to assess my situation. I'm apparently taking orders from Davy Jones, and he wants me to kill Maximum Ride and her flock, who are in turn killing a bunch of Dragonborn (are those like humans born from dragons? idklol). There's also some human mages nearby - could one of them be Trip? Probably not, but you never know.

Since I'm not quite ready to stand up to Cthulhu yet, it's probably best to follow his orders.
