So, if I wanted to try one of the mainline games, would it be better to try V or Nexus?
Nach jeder Ebbe kommt die Flut.Personally, I'd say try out V first. I can't really say which one is a better fit for a first-time player, but I think V might be a little less complex.
Nexus is also a Greatest Hits game of the series as a whole whereas V is the most self-contained of the lot, so.
Trans rights are human rights.neither. Nexus is a nostalgia game, so you miss out on a lot if you haven't played the other games, most notably III.
V is super solid gameplay wise, but might be the lightest on story in the whole series and has... interesting changes in the formula. I cant recommend it as a beginner game though due to its high difficulty curve and it missing some classic aspects of the game like subclassing.
My recommendation is to start with IV. It's the easiest to get into, has an alright story, and it's basically impossible to make an outright bad team comp preventing new player frustration. It's also my favorite of the series so far, due to a handful of reasons.
Every other game is too archaic (I, II, kinda III) or too unlike the rest of the series (Untold I & II) to recommend as an introduction.
"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaeI've already played both Untold games. And Mystery Dungeon.
Nach jeder Ebbe kommt die Flut.I wouldn't describe Untold as not "mainline"... But yeah, if you haven't played 4, you should.
Trans rights are human rights.gotcha. i'd still recommend IV, then, since it'll be closer to the type of game you're used to. V after that.
IV is also my favorite game of the series (and one of my favorite games of all time) in spite of its lighter difficulty (not that it's easy, of course) so I'd definitely highly recommend it.
Nexus I can't recommend until you've played at least III, IV, and V since it leans heavily on nostalgia for those games.

"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaeRecently been playing V again. I managed to beat the Zombie Dragon, and I felt it was less tense than the fight against the Dryad.
Also, unlike the Dryad, I didn't screw up my Formaldehyde timing, so I managed to get both of its drops.
All that's left of the terrible trio is the Lamia, and I get the feeling she'll probably be the toughest fight of the three.
oh wow i'm really necro-ing this thread
question: does anyone here have experience with Etrian Odyssey III, and would be willing to help me out a bit with team comp?
